We’re beyond excited to share a special mixtape with you from @hoavi (aka Kirill Vasin), a St Petersburg-based producer and DJ who has been an integral part of the underground scene for over a decade.

Hoavi’s journey began in the early 2010s when he founded his label, Shells Rattle, and he has since released music on labels such as floe, Snare Tapes, Peak Oil, Fauxpas, Minor Notes and ГОСТ ЗВУК. Beyond his solo work, Hoavi has collaborated with artists like Oomkah Dee, contributing to the "Collage" series, which blends sound art with contemporary dance. We've first got acquainted with his ambient side thanks to the album "Music for Six Rooms" which we also invite you to revisit. We were so taken by it at the time that we reached out to him to add one more gem to our collection.

The mix he recorded for us is a beautiful blend of genres and emotions, with ambient tracks, dubby sounds and abstract beats – a journey through soundscapes and experimental vibes. It’s not pure ambient, but the sound flows so naturally that it felt like the perfect fit for our series.

Simone Mascali, aka Steal Tapes, is an Italian DJ and producer known for his dynamic and forward-thinking approach to electronic music. Born in 1998, his journey began with a deep-rooted passion for hip hop and electronic beats, leading him to start producing at just 13 years old. Over the years, he has built a strong presence in the global scene, consistently delivering chart-topping releases and earning support from some of the industry’s most respected names.
Steal Tapes has released music on prestigious labels such as Wilson Records, TRUE ROMANCE, CUFF,W&O Street Tracks, Purveyor Underground, and more. His tracks frequently chart on Beatport and receive heavy rotation from renowned artists including Marco Carola, Jamie Jones, Josh Wink, Cinthie,Steve Lawler, Karotte, Roger Sanchez, and Claude VonStroke. His music has resonated in top clubs and festivals worldwide.
On the performance front, Steal Tapes has played in clubs across Tokyo, Lisbon, Bologna, Naples, andmany other cities in Italy. He has performed at iconic venues such as Destino (Ibiza), Bolgia(Bergamo), Rocket (Milan), and holds a residency at ‘This Is Not’ in Varese.

MIX & SELECTA | Steal Tapes - Episode #019

A clinic in minimal from the elusive Acting Press boss. 

Why do certain sounds cultivate a cult following? Simply put, it's often because they resist easy consumption. PLO Man and his imprint Acting Press lean into this. 

Searching for the Berlin-based DJ and producer, you won’t find much online presence, interviews or conventional PR. What you will find, if you look hard enough, is a catalogue of records and mixes with a kind of tape hiss charm (a spiritual successor to Basic Channel and Chain Reaction, but scuzzier and lighter on its feet).

Founded in 2015, Acting Press once seemed to belong to the short-lived "outsider house" trend, but is now synonymous with a certain strain of modern minimal, one that is analogue, spacious and pointedly opaque. PLO Man's output is equally sparse by design: this week, he joins the RA Podcast with a characteristically elusive style, accompanying the near two-hour mix is a one-answer Q&A that gives almost nothing away.

Stripped-back, ever-so-slightly sleazy and coated in dust, PLO Man's RA Podcast continues that lineage in style. Opening with the featherlight microhouse of Margaret Dygas, RA.988 unfolds into a carefully curated spectrum of minimal, dub and deep techno. Among familiar names—look out for the blinding Rhythm & Sound and Moodymann blend—are deep cuts and left turns alongside the odd outlier, like lovers' rock pioneer Gregory Isaacs.

Like the best of his forebears, PLO Man wants RA.988 to take time for you to settle in. But once you do, you won’t want to leave.
