Famous for being the creator of Australia’s eclectic and magical music festival, Return to Rio; Ricky Cooper first made a name for himself in his hometown of London. After launching the Homegrown parties in the Europe in the early 90’s, Ricky and good mate Mr C, were behind the first-ever online radio station Gaia Live. Ricky was also a regular behind the decks at London’s most infamous nightclubs, The End, The Cross, The Rocket and Bug Bar. From there, the offer of residency at Club de Baia, tempted Ricky to move to Portugal where people would travel from across Europe to witness their wild beach parties.

He has played alongside Carl Cox, Laurent Garnier, Derrick Carter, Express-2, Steve Lawler and a back-to-back session with Eric Morillo, just to name a few.. As a result he has been able to bring those same industry giants to Return to Rio including Lee Burridge, Dixon, Tale Of Us, Atish, The Martinez Brothers, Greg Wilson, LTJ Bukem, Acid Pauli, Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox and so many more making Sydney dancers extremely happy. 

Return to Rio is a world-class event that has a reputation for delivering real music with soul, individual theming and characters you'll only find  at Return To Rio served up with an all for it crowd usually connected by 1 to 2 degrees making it feel more like a community than most festivals you attend. We are hoping to have the return of festivals like Return To Rio soon as current world situation allows. In this global festival downtime Ricky hasn't stopped supporting our music needs launching sold out shows with Double Touch and Cafe Del Mar in the interim to give us some quality music and also Shady Sundays up in his central coast home town. Music is the answer for Ricky and so many of us.

Lee Burridge - Robot Heart - Burning Man 2022

Born and raised in Sweden, Frida moved to Australia in 2012, where she was first introduced to Sydney's infectious house and techno music scene. 

With an ear for progressive beats, she quickly became a regular supporter of iconic events such as Blueprint, SASH, Return to Rio and Subsonic, taking inspiration from the broad range of local and global acts and honing her own uplifting sound.

You can expect to hear influence from the likes of Lee Burridge and Sebastian Leger in her mixes, with the perfect blend of dreamy chords and deep, bouncy beats.

From Cloud 9 in Fiji, Return To Rio, Bootz n Catz, The Fan Club Collective, to a Blueprint Entertainment resident, Frida can now be heard on the regular across Sydney, with bright, melodic sets made for post-pandemic dancefloors and sunny Sunday sessions.

Let The People Dance 185 - Frida

I'm super excited to be sharing my Return to Rio Festival set with you.

This mix is very special to me as it's really one of the first times I've been able to express my style of music, and to do so on a stage like this was nothing short of a dream.

It was such a pleasure to play on the Friday evening at the Pool stage and I'll never forget it.

My creative thought process in this mix was to play around with the masculine and feminine energy in me (and all of us) using deeper darker tracks mixed in with dreamy floaty emotive sounds to encapsulate the yin and yang, masculine and feminine to open up each side, to stomp the ground and float away within the hour I had to deliver this set.

Thank you to everyone who danced and who came up to me over the weekend telling me how much they enjoyed it. These comments meant so much to me especially as this was the first time I could express myself musically like this. Thank you.

And the biggest thank you to Ricky and Alex Cooper for inviting me to play and giving me the opportunity to deliver this set. 

Lastly, thank you to my friends who supported me that day as I was crapping it! You guys are wonderful.
