Its been raining up in the Blue Mountains- which is a good thing! Out early morning Wednesday, Sept 18th and I found giant Cauliflower-like, slightly Lion's Mane-ish fungi under gum trees. Turns out these giant fungus clumps are Laetiporus portentosus. Here's what Wiki has to say: Laetiporus portentosus is a species of polypore fungus in the family Fomitopsidaceae. It is found in South America, Australia, and New Zealand. It has been used traditionally as a tinder and to carry fire by Australian Aboriginals, and by New Zealand Māori people. The Māori have also used it as a "wound protector, to soften and ease a difficult labor.
The white-throated treecreeper (Cormobates leucophaea) has been recorded feeding on this fungus in a heathy dry forest in Victoria.

Can plants make music? This is a question that composer/theorist and Pitt doctoral candidate Brian Riordan and Paul Miller, a music theorist and Assistant Professor of Musicianship at Duquesne University, have been addressing in their research. The short answer to that questions is a resounding no! Miller and Riordan point out that commercial products purporting to provide consumers with the opportunity to experience the music of plants are heavily mediated through music technology and myriad creative choices made by the product designers. But they also make it clear that since plants generate voltage they can interface with music technology and thus provide a creative resource for musicians.
