Set to be released tomorrow via the rapidly rising Revolver Upstairs Records, is the latest EP from Melbourne born, Berlin-based Katie Drover. The Overthought EP, is Katie’s latest release following features on imprints such as Lobster Thermin, Pleasure Zone and her own label Dokutoku records. In her latest 4 track EP, Katie shows her versatility as a producer, with each club-ready track traversing through genres, sounds and memorable moments.  

Today’s premiere, ‘House Plant’, is the closing track from the release, running at just over 6 minutes the track draws on deep chords, a playful bassline and shimmering synths to constantly evolve the track and leave the punters longing for more. As a former Rev’s regular, Katie’s versatile sets have translated effortlessly to her output as a producer, cool, calm and calculated, we look forward to hearing more from her and Revolver Upstairs Records.

The right track at the right time, anywhere or surely anytime, that is Acid Safari. This Spanish-born, Australian DJ has been one of the not-so-well-kept secrets in the world renowned Melbourne scene for many years.

Acid Safari has literally played in most high caliber events in Australia, across a wide range of styles. His credentials include being a resident at Revolver Upstairs (AU) for over 10 years (he is part of the infamous book ’20 Years in the Belly of the Beast’), where his sets are worshipped by both general punters and industry heads, Piknic Electronik Melbourne (AU), Rainbow Serpent Festival where he found his name, S.A.S.H. (Sydney), resident at the now defunct The after-hours at Survivor (Club of Legends), how he ‘survived’ 2 years without sleep between Saturday and Sunday should be a medical test case, there, also played B2B2B sets with two of the most versatile DJs in Melbourne: Mike Callander and Andee Frost; Trough X, Melbourne Music Week, Subsonic Music Festival, resident at the legendary Honkytonks, Babylon Festival, Earthcore Festival where he used to be the last man on the decks; you name it, if it was in Australia he has probably played at it.

The musical journey Acid Safari proposes has made him support a wide variety of acts, and by that we mean warming up or closing down shows after the likes of Richie Hawtin, Radio Slave, Francois K, Paul Kalkbrenner, both Roman Poncet and Traumer, Molly, amongst some incredible international artists... you get the picture by now, that Acid Safari’s range is far and wide, he performs at some of the toughest techno parties in Melbourne, resides and has resided at some of the best clubs in the world for years, performs for ultra long sets at his creation Long Play, plays at outdoor festivals in front of thousands of people, or ambient sets to a few dozens, runs a weekly radio show at Kiss FM Australia called Radio Bueno, plays pop and retro sets at The Espy one of the best rock venues in Australia, and on the same weekend techno at illegal raves in abandoned factories.

If that wasn’t enough, he is part of the team that bring to you that amazing merchandise: ‘Fucking Techno’; as one of the heads behind Stable Music. He has been the booker for the first three seasons of Piknic Electronic Melbourne, has produced Kubik Melbourne and has branded and developed events like Where?house, Capacity... he is a beloved figure between touring artists, with whom has developed plenty of friendships.

For 20 years, Saturday nights at Revolver have been home to The Late Show - an upfront musical experience, spread across 2 rooms. To celebrate the anniversary, we’ve put together our first official compilation of previously unreleased tracks from both the cage and the stage. Not some misty-eyed, nostalgia-tinged retrospective of club hits from years gone by, but a reflection of how the club sounds right now. The Late Show - As We Know It.  

No one ever simply walks into Revolver, it’s the kind of club which ingests you whole, and once inside you’ll notice that nothing stays still. From the time the lights are dimmed, until you finally emerge like Robert Duvall in that weird final scene from TXH1138, the music is continually morphing. This is what the compilation has attempted to capture. Play it from beginning to end and move between the rooms - a stage banger here and a cage jam there.
 
The cage (or as some prefer The Back Room), has over the last two decades established itself firmly as a Melbourne institution. Between dinner and dawn threads of House, Italo, Afro, Latin, and early rave all fuse together forming a mutant DNA, which every week is spliced together under salvaged surgical lamps. Meanwhile in the Front Room, a heavy bombardment of Bass, Garage, Funky, Techno, Club and Hardcore compete for the upper hand.

After months of hibernation the news that dance floors will once again be opening up this weekend, albeit, with slim capacity limits, it’s fitting that we will be premiering a new track off a V/A compilation inspired by Melbourne’s most iconic venue.’The Late Show: As We Now Know’, is a V/A compilation with tracks produced by many of Revolver’s Saturday night regulars, it’s the sophomore release from ‘The Late Show’ and like the debut release, covers a number of sounds, styles, and genres.

When given the opportunity to premiere a track from the release, we were stoked to see the name of fellow Westside based crew, General Purpose amongst the name of contributing producers. Despite being one of our favourite labels in the city (peep last years Ex Ponto release for proof), GP are made up of two DJs who have blown us away with their always-on selections and seamless mixing.

Today’s track ‘5k’, inspired by the travel limit imposed during Melbourne’s hard lockdown is a club-ready jaunt, full-bodied, and ready to melt a few longing bodies. The perfect combination of combative drums, wonky synths, and General Purposes’ signature style of showcasing obscurities

Revolver Upstairs Records is back with a sophomore compilation of music from residents of The Late Show. As We Now Know delivers 13 original tracks spanning textures and BPM’s which can be heard between the dimming of Colonel Tan’s lights, and sunrise the following day.
Halfway through Revolver’s somewhat hazy history, a ghost told us “it all starts in the club”. Nowhere is this more true than at The Late Show, where a resident DJ’s wage is dependent on their willingness to try things out. Everyone needs that new edit, that new dub, something pitched down, and something messed up. People in the club need to like what’s going on, even if they don’t know what’s going on.
But that’s only half the story because what starts in the club is usually finished in the studio. The Late Show’s residents have always taken the best results from Saturday night and worked them into hybrid records. Traces of icy electro overlap with digital soca. Jazz vapours confuse rigid drum machines, before giving way to sinewy acid riffs. Italo basslines meet Italian horror, while stuttered breakbeats ride synthetic strings.
