A tribute to two great musicians who we've lost due to the current state of the world. 
Mike Longo was the keyboard player for Dizzy Gillespie. He wrote and played on many great recordings like Astrud Gilberto's "Now" and was a member of the band Jazzberry Patch whose self titled LP is sought after by collectors of drum breaks.
Manu Dibango was a multi talented musician from Cameroon who collaborated with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti & The Fania All-Stars. He helped bring Afro-Funk to the world and his hit "Soul Makossa" has been a staple in DJ crates since the days of Kool Herc & Africa Bambaataa. RIP Mike & Manu

His song "Ain't No Big Thing To Do" as well as  another recent reissue , the mega rare "Shardarp" by Nobody's Children. Today I wanted to do something far out so, I went deep into the crates and pulled out some of my favorite Psych Rock records.  Came up with a 40 minute trip through the galaxy. Never mind the crackle and pops you might hear, that's just space dust that's built up on your transistor. Now... twist something up, turn the lights down & let the music take control.

Good News Daily #22

An all vinyl mix of music sampled by two of the greatest all time producers DJ Premier & RZA. 
You probably tuned into the online sound clash a few nights ago where these two titans went beat for beat in live showdown. In the end, it was hard to pick a winner. Either way, some great music was played and we all got to go back to our younger days for 3 hours while they dueled it out.  
Here's a bunch of my favorites by them. Some obvious and some a little harder to spot. This barely scratches the surface of what they've touched but, gives a small representation of Preemo & The Abbot's work. Enjoy, RS

An all vinyl mix of spacey Jazz tracks with vocals. A few rare ones like, Starcrost, 'Thesda & Dianne Mower are in the mix as well as some classics such as, Steve Kuhn's "Meaning Of Love". This has always been  one of my favorite areas of my collection so, I'm long  overdue for a mix like this. Check it out and let me know if you're feeling the vibe! RS

A tribute to the Jazz guitar/synth legend Ryo Kawasaki.
This mix highlights his work as a solo artist and with his group Tarika Blu(who were famously sampled by J Dilla for Erykah Badu) as well as his time as a band member for both Elvin Jones and Gil Evans.

This mix is by no means a look into his full discography. I've left plenty gems off so you can discover his music on your own.

This is a tribute to Danny Leake, multifaceted musician and member of the band 100% Pure Poison whom we lost to COVID-19. 
He wrote, arranged, produced & played on a number of important Soul & Funk recordings for artists like Smokey Robinson, Linda Williams & Samuel Jonathan Johnson.
This mix highlights a few of my favorite songs that Mr. Leake has blessed throughout his career. However, I urge you to dig deeper into his catalog and explore the groovy work he left us with. Thanks for the tunes Danny , rest well! RS
