For those who know me, NO I am not pregnant. This poem is more of a non traditional twist on mother/parenthood, and what it can look like. Its a mix between love, fear, anger, flat out absurdity, and maybe some bat shit craziness sprinkled in. Regardless, it can be what makes or breaks a person in the beginning.  It started out as a single poem, but as I began to write, I figured I'd write a b-side to the story, I mean after all, there are two sides to every story, right?  Lyrics Below:


If I had a daughter, 
I'd be there for every need. 
I'd guarantee her safety.
We'd play make believe

I'd show her how to cook
We would draw, we would paint
I'd read her every book

I'd push her on the swing
We'd go on walks, blow bubbles
Pick flowers in the spring

I'd show her how to sit in a skirt 
If she should choose to wear it
Look for bugs and worms,fingernails full of dirt

I'd show her how to fix cars
She'd learn to change a tire
And when we finish doing that, we'd sit and count the stars

She'd learn the contents of a purse
And where to keep her money
I'd help her come of age,gain healthy value of her worth

And since I never got it
And when she's set for launch I'd leave some knowledge in her pocket

Every mother has their mantra, they boast them far and wide
but when they close the door you never see the other side.

Keep your shoes on , you don't want your feet to grow big do you?
Stop biting your nails, that's nasty
Girl, eat that, burnt make you beautiful.

Put that clothes pin on your nose when you sleep, or your nostrils will get too wide
Don't pick up the needles in the park
Eat more bread, you'll get beautiful thighs


Don't touch nothing in the store, I'm not buying nothing extra
Don't eat in my car
If you pee your pants, I'll get cha.

Use the bathroom before you leave the house, you better hold it till we get there
What choo lookin at?
That clip won't hold your course hair

Don't you play in that fire hose
Put that ball down, you're a girl
You're supposed to wear girl clothes

Crying gets you nothing but a wet face
You think I care about your feelings?
You're a kid, don't argue with me, you have no case

Are you entertaining any ghosts? 
Turn off this tv if you ain't watching it
Take care of others the most

Little girl, don't talk back to me, I will knock you down
you too strong
As long as I'm alive and you're in my house, you still ain't grown.
