New lofi synth-pop single "Steppin' Out" is REV WYN flexing his tape machine experiments to the max. It's fuzzy - but punchy. Weird - but tasty like bubblegum vodka on a hot Tucson night.

The first song written/recorded for the "Total Abandon" LP, and his go-to set opener, "Steppin' Out" is a modern classic in the making - not to be trifled with. It's strong stuff - you might find yourself steppin' out all over the place.

Steppin' Out

"Endless Summer," on a literal level, is about the magical feeling of moving from Brooklyn to Tucson via cross country road trip one October not so long ago. As the highways rolled by, it felt like the culmination of an era, and of a beautiful summer. When we hit Tucson, I experienced a marvelous psychological disorientation. Year after year, I was used to a descent into bitter NYC cold. But the seasons in the Sonoran Desert are very different, and it felt like the summer just kept on going. It's also a state of mind - "I'm on a highway - to an endless summer." One last note of intrigue - as a songwriter, I have a tendency to get too weird and cerebral. So with this song, I explicitly set out to write the dumbest, simplest pop lyrics possible. I believe that at a precise point of simplicity and repetition of the right elements, simple lyrics can become brilliant. And that's exactly what happened here - REV WYN wrote a summer jam.

After enjoying Bob Clark's haunting 1974 slasher classic "Black Christmas" this October, I developed a fixation with crafting the ultimate noir-Christmas ballad, a meditation on the lonely holiday season about to ensue in a pandemic ravaged world. This one's for all those unable to gather around the hearth with loved ones this year. My heart goes out to everyone affected by Covid-19 in any way, especially those who have sustained heavy losses.
