No One Feels Like Jazz When It’s This Wet!

Rainy Day? Guess it’s time for liquid! We had a little mini rave under the bridge, the day filled with 140 & 170 beats…so I attempted to do both! I was opening, and while my original plan was to have a jazzy opener I thought some melancholy liquid would be more appropriate! Though…to be true to myself I *had* to throw in some jungle, some nasty bass, a footwork track and then a tiny little itty bit of break core (I’m not sorry). Set was 45m but the generator died, so I made it 40 min ;) .

But don’t worry good Stiles has separated from his body and is helping Scott (Werewolf), Lydia (Banshee) & Alison (Werewolf hunter - don’t ask) & Kira (Good Fox Demon that’s like…not that old), take down Void Stiles by biting him, because he can’t be a fox and a wolf.

Felt Proud, Might Delete Later. Welcome to Teen Wolf Witch-House Dnb! Which 100% should not be a subgenre i am so sorry. 

So first off massive shout out to Dylan Martin for helping me get this track mixed!!!! (This is my first time creating something that's heavy ;__; so I really needed all the help i can get)!! This was the first time I acctively tried to be a bit more creative with the bass!! *Hopefully* it'll be good enough if you really need some spooky dancefloor vibes...for next year!! Also Thanks to @sara_croft for suggesting that a sub shouldn't be on my bass buss 😅. 
 
To anyone who is curious what Witch House combined with DNB with Teen Wolf Samples, here's my attempt!!! Featuring Void Stiles (yep, that's a real character!), bell synths, distraught guitars (pun absolutely intended!), cheesy af organs, dirty reese & all the weird witch house asmr goodness.

Apparently my drums get a -5 / 10 😂. HONESTLY though I think I just need to learn how to drums better so for now I'm leaving them - might update this download? Who knows!! Arrangement very much needs work but also its now 420 😏.

For this mix I decided to divide it into 2 halves - both being autonomic infused; a 160ish Intelligent / Ambient Drum and Bass (with a few IDM & Breaks twist) and then a more traditional and 170ish Liquidish Dnb Mix with the emphasis on cinematic vibes!!

Apologies about the recording quality there is a crackling every so often! Don't try to record on a hot day!!!!! My poor laptop overheated, and while there's a couple of mistakes- I do hope you enjoy the vibes!

Rex's Cinematic Vibes

Was trying to do a Jazzy Mix. I tried to keep it super groovy and dancy the whole way through. My main focuses were on maintaining energy, accessibility, as well as some more interesting harmonic things (love mixing jazz!!) and having just the right amount of bangers! The last 30m I tried to make a little bit heavier but still keeping it groovy! Feedback is always welcome as I want to improve!

Rex’s Take on a Jazzy Summer

wowowowow first international support! I'm honestly so stocked to have played. I *LOVE* shogun so much. Their liquid releases are some of the absolute top and got me through a lot. Technimatic, Pola & Bryson, Glxy, Monrroe are all absolutely fantastic for MOMENTS. I really wanted to start and end with Wardown (which is Pete from Technimatic's alias, which represents so much of the dnb I want to see, which I think needs to have a place??). 

I alsp wanted to do something emotional given all the bad weather we had lately (which lollll turned out to be super sunny...), but i basically my concept was kinda a "Space Age Microfunk Set" - Inspired by LSB / DRS sets and Bop's Label; I was heavily encouraged by people to put my own music in (I managed to get 4 tracks in there which I think I did ok!). For some reason I was like "oh everyones just gonna be emotional liquid so I need to come up with something completely different", and thus kinda came up with this concept which I hoped was a little different but still fit the vibe (and uh, represented me?). Totally didn't overthink this mix...not at all...

Also this is a practice mix, I reckon it's pretty close to the actual days but I definitely cooked a couple moments in here haha. feedback is always appreciated tho!!

Everything Merged Vol 2
(release Dec 2)

‘Everything Merged’ is 3024’s second series of compilations featuring artists from the 3024 Mentoring Program. At the beginning of the pandemic, label owner Martyn started forming a lively online community of artists, providing them with ideas and inspiration. This community grew larger and larger, and musicians started to connect both online and offline, across continents and genres. It resulted in the “It Was Always There” series of compilations in 2021, as well as countless independent releases, radio appearances and gigs, putting a host of artists on the map.

Working on the program made Martyn and partner Jeroen Erosie reconsider the purpose of running a record label in 2022. ‘Are we still interested in putting out records via the usual channels?’ Or should a label become more of an umbrella for various activities by a larger community, both online and IRL, with digital and physical products, in other words merge everything into one.

“Everything Merged vol. 2” features both artists debuting their first tracks on a label as well as mainstays of core local scenes like London, NYC, SF and Berlin. From the percussive mastery of Sister Zo, Arcane Prospect and Manchester's DR MYSTERY to the sly techno mutations of Kudeki, Clay Wilson and Pino Peña, this collection highlights the wide variety of sounds and influences inhibiting the current electronic scene. Especially check out the post-pando exuberance of uuklyph, Henry Kerins and Padua and the bass mutations of Dutch duo TMSV & Case, Kenji Ko, Ragdy and Rex the Bard!

Heyyy!!!! Really proud of my mix (I think it might be the best one I've done to date? It's a rerecord but i'm proud of it anyway haha)

So on saturday got to support the incredible chloe robinson! I was super excited for this as I really liked a lot of chloe's mixes. It was also really exciting for me cause i have never done a straight 120-140 mix before (usually I bump it up in speed 😅). A while ago I read an article about chloe's journey from barley legal (bass focused) to where she is now and being inspired by all the kinda weird and wonderful beats out there! So I kinda wanted to take that message to heart and do my own version of that!!! 

Had the best time digging as well as including stuff that's near and dear to me, also huge shout out to the 3024 discord and martyn's deep dives for giving me some form of an education - maybe some of the tunes are obvious if you love house and techno but i tried haha! I even added something a tune i liked classified as tech house!! (growth!)

this is my first mix. FEEDBACK is more than welcome! I played it at stomping grounds on december 1st... I've only been mixing for about a month so uh; it's probably full of errors! 😅

I would have recorded it live but quite frankly I forgot (Along with my mac charger, the time I was playing & my house keys...)ANYWAY!! 

This version is a little nicer I think!  

the mistakes i know about are DRS bit, the ending, the sky is falling, and there's a few harmony clashes 😬. I defiantly think i might have overcomplicated it for my first mix!
