Beyond The Struttopshere is a sonic collaboration between Leo Strutt (Strutt Bros DJs) and Ben Chetwood (Flying Mojito Bros, Damian Lazarus’s Ancient Moons) aimed at channelling their considerable musical production experience and boundless love of cosmic chugging dark disco. Their debut EP, New Frontier, was released on Gouranga in late 2020 and featured remixes from heavyweights of the scene: James Rod, Mufti and K-Effect. The title track found much acclaim among Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston’s A Love From Outer Space online fraternity and was featured in The Juan Mclean’s (DFA Records) contribution to Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space mix series. In 2021, the boys released their second EP, ‘Celestial Drift’, on Mélopée Records with Mexican dark disco wizard Roliva delivering a stellar remix. They then featured on Mélopée’s inaugural VA compilation, with the ZZ Top inspired ‘Pontiac Firebird’, and later that year performed remix duties for hybrid alien rock trailblazers, aka The Menzia, on Ilya Santana’s comic disco imprint (Astrolead Recordings). 

Their now trademark sound combines fat chugging basslines with reverbed guitar riffs, 80s-tinged cosmic synths, crunchy power cords, gnarly arpeggiators, spacey 303s, Italo drum fills, and swirling psychedelic delay lines. The boys have a busy year ahead with another hotly anticipated release on Gouranga, now their flagship label, as well as guest mixes on IN DARK WE TRUST, Counterterraism and Heartwood FM. This summer you can catch them DJ’ing at Glastonbury’s infamous Rabbit Hole, Noisily, Secret Garden Party and Heartwood Festival. Counterterraism Guest Mix 227: Beyond The Struttosphere

'Everyone’s favourite Israeli digger is back for another round of gloriously rare edit heat on Razor-N-Tape. Tel Aviv’s Elado returns to the Brooklyn imprint for PT. 2 of his edit series with four deadly disco dancefloor weapons.  Elado has been a driving force in his home city scene, avidly collecting records for three decades and Djing for the best part of two. In 2020 he stormed the edit world where his kaleidoscopic musical palette was heard for the first time on Razor-N-Tape and Eddie C’s Red Motorbike.  He is a master manipulator in turntablism and a much-touted tastemaker, fully immersing himself in Tel Aviv’s vibrant nightlife. Armed with a custom-built rotary mixer from Condesa, he utilizes his musical instincts with rich DJ sets that see him seamlessly weave through breakbeat, electro, disco, house & lost grooves from across the globe. Other releases can be found on G.A.M.M, Barefoot Beats, Bonfido Disques, and the mighty Secret Squirrel.

 'Baila’ gets the party started with infectious flamenco chants and claps over a churning acidic groove, and ‘Disco Hummus’ rounds out the side with a bit of joyful disco cheek. On the flip, ‘Sun’ turns an unlikely cover of a classic into an Afro Disco banger, and ‘Simba’ rumbles and rolls with restraint toward a hypnotic peak of brass and vocals. Bereit für LinnDrum, Simmons und 808? Analoge Synths?? Melodien - Harmonien - Gesang??? Herzschmerz und Erotik??!?! Ein 100% Italo-Disco-Mix - speziell für den antik-mediterran thematisierten Infopoint auf dem Festival "Plötzlich am Meer" 2016. Ein wackliges Set Up mit ausgelutschten Plattenspielern und bei jeder Gelegenheit umherspringenden Nadeln machten die Premiere zur Schlitterpartie. Übergänge sauber und geplant hinzubekommen war diffizil, doch ich liebe die Auswahl viel zu sehr, um diesen Mix mit einigen meiner Lieblings-Italo-Hymnen nicht mit Euch zu teilen. Allora prego!!!

Here's an All-Italo-Disco-Mix for the mediterranean themed Infopoint at the festival "Plötzlich am Meer" 2016. Badly maintained turntables on a fragile desk with needles skipping all over the place at every opportunity nearly ruined this premiere. Preparing transitions felt like walking on thin ice (and cracking it more than once), but I steadily regained some control and still want to share this killer list with some of my Italo favorites with you. Allora prego!!
