Menou, the alias of Japanese artist Makiko Iwaki, creates soundspheres that evoke deep emotions and introspection. Her productions and live performances explore the subtle intricacies of ambient and deep drone music, carefully layering sounds to reveal delicate shifts and textures. With a focus on emotional depth, Menou’s work invites listeners into a space of quiet reflection, where sounds breathe and evolve organically. While her live sets primarily center around ambient and drone elements, she also incorporates experimental and deep techno influences. Under her Menou alias, she performs live, while her DJ sets are presented under the name iwamaki.

Paayaliya (feat. Meenakshi K)

This track is the result of a field recording workshop held at Skotfoss and Løveid Locks in April 2019. The workshop was part of the Greenlightdistrict Arts Festival 2019.
The workshop aimed to capture the sonic identity of a closed down industrial site in the south of Telemark, Norway. 
Artistic leader was Jørgen Larsson. Producer for Greenlightdistrict was Tom Hovinbøle.

Collecting sound is my habitual endeavour. Using recorded sound as my raw material, detach it entirely from its source and reconstruct it through a series of electronic processing. Texture rich tracks blend the sounds of my journeys. From heavily droning soundscapes towards a more rhythmic narrative.
