A Dylan favorite of mine for years.  First found this sprinkled into his Greatest Hits Vol 2. with some other great rare Dylan outtakes. This song also appears in the Basement Tapes with Mr. D. and the Band.  That rendition is titled Crash on the Levee.  Go find another best friend.

The Byrds were always the "American Beatles" to me.  This was one of their tunes that I always liked.  The lyrics are patently "trippy" in keeping with the spirit of the times.  All I needed was a Rickenbacker 12-string.

A fantastic song from a fantastic talent - Lucinda Williams.  If you haven't listened to this woman, shame on you.  Wish I had a mandolin player on this one.

Words by Woody Guthrie, music by Billy Bragg.  From the wonderful Mermaid Ave project with greats like Wilco, Bragg, and others creating music for Woody's words.  A tale of misguided innocence and you can almost see Woody winking.

Way Over Yonder In The Minor Key - mcs4

This is one of my favorite Psychedelic Furs songs.  I heard Robyn Hitchcock do a cover of this and liked the way that song still carried - even with 1 guitar.  A sure sign of a good song.

A great Avett Bros tune. Love, yearning, loneliness, Brooklyn, - all the ingredients of a great song in one package.  I hear the Band, the Everly Brothers, and many more.  These guys write great songs.

This was R.E.M.'s shot across the indie bow - a great debut single.  Psychedelia, jangling guitars and words that make no sense = great stuff.  ....and they were just starting,  Always loved this one.

MOBILE COVER SERIES  

All of the songs in this series are covers of other artists' material.  The ones I have chosen are tunes I have kicked around for years and all genres are fair game.

This first batch was recorded with an iPhone 4s using the phone's built-in mic and the GarageBand iPhone app.  As I add more recording "hardware," I will let you know so you can see/hear the differences between the recording techniques - all techniques will stay in the iOS realm, however.

I will start with some basic recording techniques and build from there.  We'll see if we can turn some Lo-Fi into Hi-Fi.  Hope to bring some guest artists into this series, too.
