Patty Griffin is one of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters, and I've wanted to cover more of her music for a long time. Many moons ago, my music partner Montrose Cunningham and I performed Patty's song, "Every Little Bit," at one of our acoustic gigs. We only did it that one time. Earlier this spring, I got the idea to cover the song again, re-imagining it in the spirit of the great Bettye LaVette and the always funky Lenny Kravitz. Here's a demo. Enjoy!

Love Letters

This song is one of my most personal compositions. I wrote "Brand New Thing" in early 2010, not long after losing my eldest sister, Dawn Michelle, to suicide. It's one of the first songs I wrote after her death and represents that first phase of my grief journey, where I was sorting through what would be my new "normal" but also, more importantly, manifesting what I wanted my life to look like...later.

The song's gone through a number of iterations in terms of arrangement and in 2020, just before the first wave of COVID shutdowns, my brother Rod came by my house and laid down some sick guitar and bass. After he added his magic touch, I updated the original keyboard and vocal arrangements to match the vibe.

Brand New Thing

Released in March 2020, 'Radical Ecstasy' is Rhonda Nicole's second EP, dropping 10 years after her debut project, 2010's 'Nuda Veritas.' Intended to move the feet and get the heart pumping, the set features two new tracks ("Human" and "Healer," penned in 2013 and 2017, respectively), and remixes of two songs previously released on 'Nuda Veritas,' "Mia (Echo's True Luv Mix)" and "SoulLover (I Know This Much is True Mix)."

Inspired by recent events, "Shelter" is the first single from Rhonda Nicole's upcoming EP 'Home,' expected to release in fall 2020. The follow-up to her spring '20 project, 'Radical Ecstasy,' 'Home' is a collection of new love songs written at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and explores the tension between isolation and desire.
