Tapping On A Desk

A set of sounds recorded by a team of researchers who deployed a recorder nearly seven miles beneath the surface of the sea, to Challenger Deep, the lowest point in the Mariana Trench.

The sound of a magnitude 5 earthquake that occurred near Challenger Deep 16 July 2015.

In addition to conveying a strong performance of these important JS Bach keyboard inventions, I tried to achieve a life-like acoustic environment and clear but colorful vintage recording sound, to harken to the classical recording techniques of the 1960's and 70's. These performances were recorded with the Nord Stage EX French Harpsichords, and for room ambiance I used the Altiverb IR Reverb of Austria's Schloss Esterhazy Castle Chapel. This was the location that Haydn lived, composed and performed many of his works in the early 1700s, so it was no surprise that the room suited well the keyboard music of Bach, his contemporary.
