The two disc set, titled a SMUT presentation of FOLK and Punk dialectical history has been made in collaboration with TROVE and focuses on the work of Niall Singh as well as featuring a wide range of collaborators including Sophie Bancroft, MSFAC (a Radical Arts Collective of which Niall is a founding member) and MQ-1. The first disc contains an interview, approximately 20 minutes in length, that Sophie Bancroft conducted with MSFAC as a part of the TROVE Audio project in 2012, the second disc features new works by Niall and a bonus track by MQ-1. As this is quite a special release it will be in a limited edition of 30 as opposed to our regular editions of 50.

Graham says:

These recordings were made at a time in my life when everything felt a bit unsettled, uncertain, as a way of trying to introduce some stability.

I visited each place I have ever called my permanent home. At each location I walked the length of the street and timed myself doing so. This gave each track's duration. I then took a photograph of the house in which I had lived, from the opposite side of the street, and took a field recording of the appropriate duration.

Back at the studio I traced the shape of each street from a map and made the lines cross at the point on the street I had lived: this is the diagram on the front cover of the release. I got the film developed then scanned in each photo. I mixed down each field recording to a second hand tape then back into a digital format. The photos and tracks are labelled only by street name.

It was important to me not to deviate from these rules, however arbitrary. Each step in the process has some personal significance in creating the final archive.

Graham Dunning's "Linby"

On this debut release by MortonUnderwood recorded sounds are introduced into to an existing soundscape through a battery-powered amplifier. The final pieces are field recordings of these “augmented soundscapes” in which post-production is limited to topping and tailing, adjusting levels and equalisation.

Space Gambus Experiment was founded by Kamal Sabran; a Malaysian New Media Artist whom is currently a PhD candidate in the field of Sound Art. His work stands at the intersection of Art, Science and Technology. He has received the ‘Best New Media Artist Award’ from the Malaysian National Art Gallery as well as the ‘ASEAN New Media Artist Award’ awarded by the Indonesian National Art Gallery and in 2005 he completed a residency at the National Space Agency, Malaysia. 

‘First Steps into Inner Space’, Space Gambus Experiment’s new album, consists of 11 new songs including Earth is Not my Home; I’m Just Passing By which is also the soundtrack to a new piece of video work made by Kamal whilst visiting the UK. ‘First Steps into Inner Space’ is a fascinating fusion of traditional Malaysian folk music and more contemporary, global, electronic sounds; this combination of aesthetics produces a seductively rhythmic body of work which is slightly more aggressive than their previous output but still beautifully soothing.

A one-night exhibition of Andy's recent video and object based work as well as very large format drawings will take place at Althorpe Studios and Gallery in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire on 27-4-2013 alongside performances of works taken from his [RHP] CDRs release. 

Andy Hopkins' multidisciplinary and reference heavy works inhabit a fantastically surreal world filled with humor. Based in Glasgow, Scotland he produces drawings, objects, sound and video incredibly prolifically and frequently using his iPod to make work, his entire [RHP] CDRs release was recorded through this everyday device, which updates this type of all-encompassing practice which is rooted in dada and surrealism and has been popularized recently by artists and projects such as Ergo Phizmiz's 'Excessive Entertainment' and David Shrigley.

Cormac Faulkner’s work is concerned with our reactions to different spaces, this is reflected strongly in his use of field recordings which are often edited through tape- looping processes and then worked over with a variety of live instrumentation ranging from Guitar and Accordion too Shruti Box, the instrument which often provides the drone element to much Classical Indian Music as well as there being frequent use of the human voice.

Tunnel Kunitoki was recorded in an Edgbaston canal tunnel in Birmingham, UK. Cormac used a melodica and shruti box with which he responded to and played with the acoustics of the place.

Plurals formed in 2007 and is based in Brighton and London. They began as an improvised drone group working with electric guitars, vocals and synths, but have gradually widened their sonic field to incorporate brass and reed instruments, cassette tapes, acoustic guitars, violin and a CB radio. Plurals performances have ranged from minimal and calm ambient to outright noise, through spacious doom and semi-freeform psychedelia. They have released full-length albums, EPs, splits and collaborations on such labels as Dead Sea Liner, Dead Pilot Records, Tor Press, Striate Cortex, Latitudes and Sheepscar Light Industrial. They have an upcoming full-length 12" on the environmental charity label Oaken Palace Records.

'You Are Aborting' is a side of Plurals that has perhaps been under-represented in their released material thus far; while recent releases have consisted of hulking 20-minute pieces with very distinct sound palettes and easily mappable trajectories, these three shorter tracks are calmer and even tentative in places, but with a sense of exploratory tension that prevails only when the group finds itself strayed from the uphill (or downhill) path. This tension achieves its catharsis in unexpected places, and as such 'You Are Aborting' stands as one of the group's more unpredictable offerings.
