The end of 2008 saw Grieves enlisting the help of friend and collaborator Budo to co-produce Together/Apart bringing his signature swiss-army knife, multi-instrumental backdrop to Grieves' hauntingly poignant narrative. The album began taking shape in New York as the two built off the success 88 Keys and Counting had generated and paired it with the intensity they developed from  their live performances.  The recording process began to shadow the theme of the album as it saw tracks recorded in Colorado and Washington in addition to New York, infusing it with a mixture of regional influences while still maintaining a cohesive sound.  As the album neared completion the title took on a double meaning for Grieves as he explored new subject matter in the absence of trust, refuge in addiction, acceptance and honesty in self-reflection, and trying to find his place in the world without forgetting his roots.  

Together/Apart concludes three years of self-discovery that has ultimately lead to Grieves' most emotionally charged and daring album to date.

"No Half Smokin'" was a B-side cut on the "Print Is Goin' Off" 7-inch vinyl release, which dropped around the same time as the "1988" album. Both songs were reinterpretations of 80's Hip-Hop classics; Big Daddy Kane's "Ain't No Half-Steppin'" and Biz Markie's "Biz Is Goin' Off", respectively. The original songs were both released on the Cold Chillin' label, so the labels for this 7-inch were also reinterpreted to mimic the 12" single labels on those original Cold Chillin' releases.

The History: Emerging out of Oldominion, one of the most prominent crews to represent out of the Northwest, Boom Bap Project had a distinct musical goal in mind. The plan was revealed in the group's name –hard beats and hard rhymes– a.k.a that good ole Boom Bap. Armed with strong Hip Hop sensibilities, unbreakable confidence, and lyrics primed to hit you directly in the head, Nightclubberlang (a.k.a Karim) and Destro Destructo attack the mic relentlessly, as their vocals ride atop hard-hitting production from an accomplished line-up of beat-makers; Jake One, Vitamin D, Bean One, Jumbo The Garbageman (of Lifesavas), Snafu, Sayeed, DJ Scene, and Mr. Hill. The album is enhanced by scratch work for DJ Scene, as well as some quality guest appearances from Gift Of Gab (Blackalicious), Rakaa Iriscience (Dilated Peoples), DJ Vin Roc, The Lifesavas, Grayskul, Snafu, and Choklate. Then, just before the release of Reprogram, Boom Bap Project also released the free mixtape, "Welcome To Seattle", to give the world a taste of what was to come. Celebrating the 20 year anniversary of Overcast, the full album is remastered and available on vinyl for the first time!

20 years ago, while building a buzz on the Twin Cities scene playing countless local shows, recording demos and endless freestyle sessions, Atmosphere released a milestone record that set the trajectory for a career that is still evolving and pushing forward to this day.

In the late 90's, for a brand new independent label, pressing a vinyl LP was an expensive venture. At the time, the focus of the young entrepreneurs was set more on expanding the foundation they had built in Minneapolis, so they invested their time and money into networking nationally by doing shows, MC/DJ battles, and sometimes traveling from coast to coast just to give CDs away, all in order to grow the fanbase. As a result of an ambitious plan gone right, Overcast will now, finally, see its way onto vinyl!

For this special 20-year anniversary vinyl edition, all the original recording sessions were transferred from the reel-to-reel tapes and mixed especially for vinyl by Joe Mabbot, long-time engineer for Atmosphere, dating back to God Loves Ugly. The album is pressed on triple white color vinyl and packaged in a custom built case-wrapped and debossed jacket, and includes three previously unreleased songs from the original reel-to-reel tapes!
