What is AHG?  You could call it a party, a gathering, a festival, or simply an experience. An experience unlike any I have ever encountered. That may sound bold to some, especially for those who know how I've dedicated so much of my life to seeking out the strange, beautiful, unique & extra special moments in time.  I’ve seen many things, but nothing quite like AHG. 

When I first met CJ I had no idea the kind of mind I was sparring with; the generosity & kindness that also encompassed this creative explosion of a person. Something I was searching for and desperately needed in my life was soon to follow. This chance meeting opened up the floodgates to a galaxy of others who were also entranced by the weird, beautiful & unique. Our playful north shore/ south shore beef soon turned into a friendship & I am so grateful to be welcomed into this community of amazing people who just happen to throw the most epic party of all time.

The people of AHG descend each year to Schoolhouse Farm, a pastoral rural gem set deep in the woods of Plympton.  Everyone brings the best of their own talents & sense of wonder. The level of art, dance, music, & family is unparalleled.  AHG is a collective of like-minded people who understand the reciprocal nature of the creative flow.  Hundreds of people giving of themselves with pure benevolent intent, blurring the lines that often separate performers from a festival crowd.  At AHG, everyone is a participant.  This communal spirit is cut from the cloth of the old way, & personifies something elusive that so many of us were lacking, perhaps without even realizing it.

AHG came to life in 1997. From humble beginnings, the event grew organically but exponentially in the years to follow.  As it evolved, the AHG community maintained a steadfast commitment to preserving the radical positive spirit that came to define this secret subculture.  For those who were there in the early years & helped it grow into its current form, respect for the AHG ethos was paramount.  AHG invitations were not broadcast, but whispered in strict confidence between the best of friends.  Nothing on social media.  No promoters.  No tickets.  A pure grass roots event.   

2019 marked something a bit different for AHG.  Having witnessed countless incredible bands and visual artists bringing their A-Game year after year, I was skeptical when I heard rumors of a special late-night guest at AHG 2019.  My attention was enveloped by the moment as fire spinners and an entire troupe of interpretive dancers elevated the consciousness of the crowd.  Culminating in a moment of  impossible psychic energy, an ALIEN PHAROAH was consumed by flames that seemed to open up a portal to a space beyond time.  In the raging firelight of this climactic moment, I saw a familiar face at the controls.  Transitioning seamlessly from the production soundtrack, I saw a friend at the mixer bridging the gap between worlds.  Validating the rumors I had heard, I turned my attention to a DJ I have seen crush musical boundaries in the rave scene for over 25 years. MIDAS.

As the burn ceremony morphed into a pyrotechnic Midas set, I felt frozen. Time seemed to stand still as the music blossomed into 3 blissful hours of Midas gold. The crowd was hypnotized. The Midas set was originally planned as a transition, but the acoustic artists scheduled to follow acknowledged that the mood was otherworldly & the entire crowd surrendered to the flow.  Midas unleashed a nuanced and psychedelic soundtrack as lasers carved patterns into a vortex of smoke upon which burning embers danced into the cosmos before dissolving into blackness and descending silently to the ground.

Midas wove together an eternal golden braid of music and spirit.  Different colors and styles surrendering to a common resonance.  We all knew we were in precisely the right place at exactly the right time.

AHG FOREVER.  THIS IS THE ART OF LETTING GO.
