Noodling about in drop-d and I came up with one of those riffs that you just know you have to do something with.  The music came together really quickly and for once I was really happy with the drum machine track I'd put together (half the battle really).

While I'm at work I keep a piece of paper handy in case some interesting, insightful, ridiculous or occasionally offensive line occurs to me.  Once I had the music sussed for this song (a gumbo of Carl Stalling, Mr Bungle and a few other bits and pieces) I picked up the huge wad of lyric pages and chose the most ridiculous, odd and basically looney patooney lines I could find and came out with this song!

Debunker

As the title suggests, this is an instrumental funk track.  Unlike the few instrumental tracks that I've previously done, this one was always meant to be instrumental, with the idea that each instrument would get it's moment in the sun.

Finishing this song is both kind of a relief and a bit sad, I started it something like 5 or 6 years ago... I haven't been working on it the whole time!  I laid down a scratch track of all the riffs back then and probably recorded drums and bass then.  All of the other parts and the solos have been happening at a very gradual rate (maybe one or two a year, heh) including re-recording the bass when I got a new bass and was really stoked with the sound of it, my old one, the pickups had been failing and the sound was so thick and muddy!

So now it's done... time to start the next one
