In 2020, Phasmid released his debut single ‘Shunned’ on Gimme A Break’s We Are Viable compilation, raising funds to support Leeds-based MAP Charity. Five years on, the eclectic DJ and producer has announced that his debut physical EP will be released via GAB on April 4th 2025.

Having cut his teeth in the UK Garage and Breaks scene, Phasmid took an extended leave from the DJ circuit to refine his sound and production techniques. Hadal Zone is the culmination of Phasmid’s various musical explorations to date, showcasing the producer’s signature clean-cut and bass-led take on breakbeat, electro and trance fusion.  

‘Onyx’ pushes the project forward with two experiments in percussive UK bass, with a four-by-four surprise in the latter.

UK turned Aotearoa/New Zealand-based DJ and producer @keepsakes is a voice increasingly worth tuning ears to. 

Fresh off the back of a major remix of Tiga & Hudson Mohawke's 'BUYBUYSELL' just last year, the artist makes his debut on Canadian-based @turborecordings with 'Impossible (Eating The Sun)'.

'Nimby Orgy' is the EP's closer, though not with the closure one might expect from that kind of name. 

Typical of Keepsakes' style, 'Nimby Orgy' is driving, controlled chaos brought together. Crashing, banging percussive samples bounce off squelchy pads and synth-lines, with crushed vocals adding to a growing feeling of disorientation, potentially also typical of such an orgy.

The release sees not only a digital release but vinyl too, as Keepsakes is a strict vinyl-only DJ. Of that fact, Turbo shared: "Given that Keepsakes is a vinyl-only DJ, we’ve done him the courtesy of making this release available both on vinyl and digitally. While this would have been an incredible opportunity to completely shut him out of playing his own tracks, we decided that this would be unfair to the music itself. Because at the end of the day, Turbo takes its marching orders from Harmony, Melody, Rhythm, and Timbre."

The title track doubles as a massive forest rave bomb AND the No. 1 battle weapon for opening DJs looking to fuck over the headliner, while “Bongo Funeral” reimagines tribal techno as the chief export of a village ruled by emotionally unavailable gremlins. Next, “Snacks at Waco” makes skillful use of a hammering industrial beat to hammer home the importance of loyalty and community, and “Parasocially There for You” deftly soundtracks anxiety dreams about meeting your favorite podcaster. Finally, closer “Nimby Orgy” likely represents the very first sexual aftercare banger. NOTE: we’ve heard bad things about both NIMBYs and YIMBYs, and as such have adopted a militantly neutral position on the matter of who is f-ing and s-ing in our backyard.

Rhythm Rails #59 - NYOOM taking us down the tracks with a Gritty/Groovy Bass mix on the Metro-North.

NYOOM is a NYC-based DJ born and raised in Yonkers with a love for all electronic music, with his sets often centered on Bass, Trap, and UKG. A Master’s student at Columbia University and member of the Columbia DJ Collective, he balances his engineering studies with a fast-growing DJ career.

A lifelong EDM nerd, he first stepped behind the decks just over a year ago, inspired by New York’s underground rave scene and eager to share his passion with others. Since then, he’s gone from house parties and open decks to venues like Somewhere Nowhere, Moxy Hotel, and Rash, as well as collaborations with NYC Parks at Washington Square Park and Coney Island.

Outside of performing, NYOOM has hosted the Bass9 radio show on WKCR 89.9FM NY for two and a half years, building a platform for new electronic, experimental, and dance music through artist interviews and a weekly guest DJ series. Now, he’s learning to produce his own music with the goal of bringing the same community energy and joy he’s found to as many people as possible.

Hessle Audio welcome Laksa to the label with three tracks of rowdy and forward-thinking dance music, following his last release on Timedance in September.

On the A-side, ‘Fire Kit’ sees the London-based producer and DJ approaching his sound from a different direction, with dancehall infused percussion offset by enveloping layers of sub-bass warmth at 95bpm.
The B side jacks up the tempo with a raucous energy as the temperature drops to below freezing. Basslines rumble in ‘Belly Brocka’ and ‘T’s Tent’ like an approaching storm and snares lash through the mix like ice picks, with the broken rhythmic energy driving the dance forward in 2021 and beyond.
