Living in the country offers opportunities to hear the songs of birds that have been annual residents here for thousands of years. An acoustic bird walk in the morning is an opportunity to reconnect to place, and start the day well-grounded by these aerial songsters. You will hear red eyed vireos, a house wren, several warblers, and a hermit thrush. Enjoy.

An interview with Brandon painter Weiming Zhao. He was visiting Riding Mountain National Park during Occupy Winter (a protest about Parks Canada's winter cutbacks in services) to show his support for the movement. He painted two paintings outdoors using oils. While it is not out of the ordinary to paint outdoors, he was painting under arduous conditions - it was -40C. His paintings were lovely, expressive, and captured the location, the feeling, and the textures of the landscape perfectly. Celes Davar, one of the originators of the Occupy Winter movement interviews Weiming Zhao as he describes what inspired him about today, what is meaningful about painting under these conditions, and what he has to be attentive to.

Occupy Winter (https://www.facebook.com/groups/OccupyWinter/?fref=ts) is a movement dedicated to requesting Parks Canada to reverse its policy shift to designating national parks as three season parks. Winter services were reduced without consultation with Canadians. Occupy Winter is a national movement. We asked Kayla Luky (http://kaylaluky.ca/about/) to write a new song dedicated to Occupy Winter, which she happily did.
