Raffaele Attanasio joins for DifferentSound Podcast #177.

I’m always hungry for new sound experiences, and I’ll put all my soul into it." - Raffaele Attanasio Born to a musician father in his home city of Naples, Attanasio was only satiated when listening to virtuoso maestros like Il Guardiano del Faro and Keith Emerson. Developing his prodigious ear, he trained on drums and then piano and his auspicious ability become apparent early. In his late teens, he ventured into DJing and electronic music production and has garnered plaudits from Jeff Mills, Len Faki and Ben Sims; even performing with Mills in a B2B live set and also Octave One. He found a home within the electronic music community, heading his own label Letter From Jerusalem, and releasing on others, such as Third Wave Black and Non Series. His label even released music from Douglas McCarthy of the band Nitzer Ebb.

Ribbon LTD is the limited vinyl off shoot from Italian label head Dave Manuel. It has featured music and remixes from established names like Brendon Moeller / Echologist, Basic Soul Unit, Ken Ishii, TWR72, and Tobias.

Spirits of Ribbon is the newest 6-track compilation made of deep, analogue grooves and that welcomes a host of quality Italian artists such as Markantonio, Mattia Trani, Z.I.P.P.O, and MUTE8.

Raffaele Attanasio is an influential artist who lists contributions to Jeff Mills’ Axis, Bas Mooy’s Mord, SHDW’s Mutual Rytm, and Dax J’s Monnom Black, amongst others of a high calibre. His varied production styles can revolve around deep vibes, acid hooks, hardgroove influences, EBM, and beyond, always showing strength, versatility and nous for concocting notable techno in all its forms.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the track “Straight Walking” with a full throttle feeling wrapped up in an overall deeper sound. Rolling, gritty percussion is highlighted with spacey chords and phasing elements to create a colossal dance floor cut.

For this DT:Premiere we selected his track “Onde” that is an instant gem of ferocity. Its powerful rolling drums and crazy, hypnotic hook make it a huge record for the dance floor that erupts with energy, built for those who can handle tenacity and verve at its finest.
