Nine-year-old Noah has a mental illness: Dissociative Identity Disorder. He lives in a world that constantly shatters into pieces. One moment, he's sitting in math class; the next, he's standing in the school hallway with a teacher yelling at him. He doesn't remember what happened in between. The doctors say it's because of trauma. A year ago, his sisters—ten-year-old Elara and seven-year-old Mia—died in a house fire. Noah was the only survivor.

But the strangest part is the drawings. They appear everywhere: on the last page of his notebook, on a napkin in the cafeteria, on the floor, on the fogged-up window of the bus. It's always the same picture: a house engulfed in flames.

Noah knows he isn't the one drawing them. His hands tremble whenever he holds a pencil. He's beginning to realize that it's them. Elara and Mia. They're not gone. They live inside him, in the silence, and the only thing they do is draw their final day, over and over.

But there's a third person in there, too—Palmer, a strong boy who emerges whenever Noah is scared, hurt, or when someone tries to talk about the fire. Palmer tears up the sisters' drawings, screams at their parents, and protects Noah from the memories with the fury of a wild animal.

Noah is trapped between the silent grief of his sisters and the blind rage of his protector. To save himself, he needs to get them to talk to each other. But how can he do that, when some can only draw, and the other can only destroy?
