 Nama Naif didapat dari pendapat teman mereka, Dodot, yang menilai lagu-lagu mereka terdengar begitu sederhana, namun tetap berisi dan terdengar harmonis. Selain itu, kata Naif pun mudah diingat. Pada tahun 1996, Naif menawarkan demo kaset yang telah mereka buat sebelumnya kepada Bulletin (PT. Indo Semar Sakti) yang berencana akan merilis sebuah album kompilasi. Bukannya berhasil masuk dalm labum kompilasi, perusahaan rekaman tersebut malah menawarkan untuk membuatkan album rekaman sendiri untuk Naif. Naif akhirnya masuk dapur rekaman dan berhasil menelurkan debut album NAIF (1998) dengan Mobil Balap sebagai tembang jagoannya. Pada tahun yang sama, mereka mengeluarkan album kedua, JANGAN TERLALU NAIF (2000), disusul album ketiga TITIK CERAH (2002). Pada tahun 2003, Chandra keluar.
