Tain't What You Do, It's The Way That You Do It, é o álbum oficial de estréia do Ricardo Baldacci Trio, feito para ouvir, dançar e cantar junto.

O título do trabalho é uma expressão popular que virou música no final dos anos 1930, que diz ser mais importante a maneira de se fazer algo. E, se for de uma forma fácil e descontraída, há swing e resultados.

O grupo formado pelo cantor e guitarrista Ricardo Baldacci, o contrabaixista acústico, Ricardo Ramos e o pianista Hercules Gomes, depois de pouco mais de um ano de formação e muito trabalho, foi para o estúdio registrar a cara do que tem sido esta temporada com shows no Brasil, Suécia, Argentina e Paraguai, hora em teatros e Festivais de Jazz, hora em eventos e bailes de Lindy Hop. Os três rapazes de trinta e poucos, gravaram um CD feito de canções que emocionam e fazem dançar, um apanhado das diversas facetas do Swing Jazz de forma moderna: blues, baladas, swings e instrumentais; com arranjos cuidadosos, muita improvisação e valiosas participações especiais.

Com muito balanço e bom humor, em quinze faixas, o Trio apresenta quatro composições próprias e mais onze canções, algumas clássicas do estilo, de compositores como os irmãos Gershwin e Jimmy Van Heusen e outras um tanto desconhecidas. Todas servem de veículo para mostrar a coesão do trabalho do time e suas influências que vão desde os inevitáveis trios sem bateria de Nat King Cole e John Pizzarelli, às orquestras de Count Basie e Duke Ellington além de cantores como Frank Sinatra e Jimmy Lunceford. O disco conta ainda com a participação especial do grupo de harmonia vocal sueco The Hebbe Sister, que assim como o Ricardo Baldacci Trio, integraram o lineup do HDC, maior evento de Lindy Hop da Suécia e um dos maiores do mundo em 2012. As jovens pegam carona e também estreiam em registro fonográfico. É a prova que o estilo musical incluído neste trabalho transcende as barreiras da nacionalidade e tempo.


Entre as composições autorais no CD temos a balada dançante, Because of You; um pulsante tributo aos lindy hoppers, Do The Lindy Hop; e o blues com o jeitão de big band, Baldacci’s Blues – as três assinadas por Ricardo Baldacci. Há também um outro blues menor de harmonia moderna, que faz referência aos tempos de ouro da Blue Note chamado Sutra’s Blues, uma homenagem do baixista Ricardo Ramos a sua esposa chamada Sutra. Entre as tradicionais do cancioneiro popular de swing temos: ‘S Wonderful, Come Fly with Me, For Sentimental Reasons, a adaptação do arranjo de Billy May em All I Need Is The Girl, e uma das canções mais executadas em coreografias de sapateado e lindy, Tain’t What You Do.

O projeto conta com nomes de peso na produção: Bill Moss e Jim Czak, dois dos mais reconhecidos engenheiros de som e produtores da história do jazz, que aqui são os responsáveis pela mixagem e masterização. Mais que um capricho, estes profissionais assumiram suas funções como uma maneira que o trio encontrou para garantir os timbres e sonoridades clássicos desejados. Se a idéia era fazer um disco de swing jazz dentro de sua concepção mais pura, porque não colocar pra trabalhar aqueles que verdadeiramente fizeram alguns dos melhores e mais clássicos discos de jazz de todos os tempos.

Tain’t what you do é uma celebração ao swing, aos lindy hoppers e aos amantes dos estilos. Também é um disco gostoso de ouvir para quem simplesmente é fã de boas melodias e tem uma queda pelo jazz.

Brothers in Swing is the second album of the singer/guitarist Ricardo Baldacci and the first Brazilian release featuring jazz guitar legend Bucky Pizzarelli. This cooperative project also features the talents of bassist Martin Pizzarelli and pianist Konrad Paszkudzki.

Baldacci is a long time admiror of the Pizzarelli family and one of the few representatives of Swing Jazz in Brazil. He was invited by Lenny White to play in a jazz festival in Manhattan when he first met Bucky. In this trip Baldacci also met sound engineer Bill Moss and asked him about the possibility to record an album with his idols. Bill said it was feasible.

Baldacci wrote to Bill, in early January 2015, mentioning the talk they had 10 months before. Bill took two weeks, answered 'yes' and booked the sessions. So RIcardo Baldacci made a brief selection of songs, wrote down some arrangements and flew to NYC, 15 days later.

Brothers in Swing was recorded in two sessions at Samurai Hotel Studios, Queens, NYC, filled with spontaneity and camaraderie. The album has the precious swinging tempos as its trademark. It showcases Baldacci's admiration to the music made by the Pizzarelli's who retributes with respect and joy to the Brazilian artist.
Baldacci, once again chose to keep the sound of the drumless trio (guitar/vocal, bass, piano) in most of the tracks, that are alternated with guitar/vocal and piano/vocal duos as well as solo guitar performances.

The CD has 17 tracks, with Standards, two original compositions by Baldacci and one track co-written with Konrad and Martin. There is a great variety in stylistic approach featuring swinging numbers, ballads and even novelty songs. The track list includes tunes like In a Mellow Tone (Duke Ellington), Embraceable You (Gershwin), Route 66 (Bobby Troup) and the almost unknown Call the Police (Nat King Cole).
Brothers in Swing  is a joyful tribute to the classical Swing Jazz sound and is filled with outstanding moving performances. All in all, a great CD for lovers of the Great American Songbook.

Influenced by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, John Pizzarelli, Brazilian singer/guitarist Ricardo Baldacci leads his drumless trio, backed up with piano and double bass. He sings and plays the classic repertoire of the Great American Song Book and has been called as "The reference for Swing Jazz music in Brazil" (Jornal A Tarde, Salvador / BA) .
In just over four years as a professional, Baldacci collects memorable presentations. In Made In New York Jazz Festival (USA), held at a packed Tribeca Arts Center he shared stage with legends Lenny White and Randy Brecker. Baldacci also had a standing ovation performance at the Municipal Theatre of Asuncion, during the XV International Jazz Festival of Paraguay. While in Sweden, he played for a huge crowd of dancers, in the 30th. Anniversary of Herrang Dance Camp Festival (the most traditional Lindy Hop Festival), and won the Swing Battle Award. In Brazil, Ricardo Baldacci made many shows in several festivals and was the main attraction of famous venues like Terraco Italia and L'Hotel Porto Bay.
The latest work of Ricardo Baldacci is, Brothers in Swing (2015), a tribute to the Pizzarelli family. On this album, the artist, plays and sings with iconic Swing Jazz names like, the American guitar legend 89 years-old, Bucky Pizzarelli; his son, Martin Pizzarelli (bass); and Australian pianist Konrad Paszkudzki. Recorded during two sessions in Queens, NY, by the experienced Bill Moss, one of the most celebrated jazz sound engineers, the CD takes place in an atmosphere of spontaneity and camaraderie and has the swing as its trademark.
In May 2014, Ricardo Baldacci was invited by drummer Lenny White (Chick Corea, Return to Forever), and had the chance to be one of the featuring artists of The Made In New York Jazz Festival. Baldacci was presented by the local American press (Brazilian American Chamber of Commerce Journal) as "a fabulous talent of the jazz world" and "one of the brightest stars in the scene."
In 2013, Ricardo produced and released 'Tain't what you do, it's the way that you do it', his first album with national and international distribution . The recording had the precious collaboration of Swedish vocal trio, The Hebbe Sister, and also featured the award-winning virtuoso pianist, Hercules Gomes and Ricardo Ramos on acoustic bass. This release was broadcasted on Radio Eldorado (Jazzmasters and The Jazz Face) and USP FM (Jazz Caravan). The CD also received positive reviews in newspapers like O Globo (Rio de Janeiro / RJ), A Tarde (Salvador / BA) and Hoje em Dia (Belo Horizonte / MG).
In a busy 2012, Ricardo Baldacci Trio made several shows in São Paulo and Minas Gerais, in addition to feature the lineup of the XV International Jazz Festival of Asuncion / Paraguay and also the 30th. Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden, presented by the artistic direction of the Carling Family. The singer / guitarist also established himself as one of the exponents of the international Lindy Hop scene, as he also performed in Argentina (LHAIF 2013), and Brazil’s BSOE 12-14(Brazil Swing Out Extravaganza).
