Nathan Roche is a poet and musician from Townsville, Australia. He played in a bunch of bands in his home country - Marf Loth, Camperdown & Out, Home Run, The Wentworth Avenue Breeze-Out, Redneck Discotheque, The Revisionists - and released a dozen albums. Not mentioning three solo records in the past 3 years, notably on his own book/music imprint Glenlivet-A-Gogh. 

He is a versatile artis and his music brings to minds Lou Reed, Kevin Ayers or early Brian Eno. It does not sound pretentious or uptight. On the contratry, there is a loose and warm feeling to most of his songs. 

Close to a number of great bands from the current australian music scene, Nathan is now based in France - Villejuif in the south-eastern suburb of Paris to be precise - and he formed a new band with local musicians, fitly called LE VILLEJUIF UNDERGROUND. 

The band has already played with the likes of The Rebel, Ausmuteants, Bazooka, Buck Biloxi and the Fucks, Juan Wauters and Sea Pinks and recently toured in China. SDZ is proud to present their very first LP!

A raw tale of a one-sided relationship, Chadwick’s impassioned piano and achingly dark lyrics showcase a deep-rooted emotional pain and vulnerability in our protagonist. “You drag my clothes off // I give you head parked at the lights // I tell a select few dozen friends // Hear from your wife // But it’s always at your leisure // My enjoyment I can’t measure.”

This song is an accurate blow by blow (pun intended) of a time.
 
On ‘Please Daddy’, there’s the line ‘my songs never achieve what they’re for’ in ‘I’m Not Allowed In Heaven’. 'At Your Leisure' asks the question ‘is it all for this song / if it is is that wrong?’ To me, the comparison illustrates a frustrated lack of control as relaxed into to an acknowledgement that it’s all definitely for a purpose, and how mad can you be when you’re literally getting what you’re asking for?
 
This song acknowledges that I wasn’t powerless- but that construction might’ve suited me at the time. But it’s important to me to recognise when I’m being lazy with my assessments of myself.
 
Things being at someone else’s leisure can be hot and exciting sometimes. But also sometimes it’s a lot of lying in bed staring at the ceiling, looking at your phone and feeling like you’re a fucking idiot. But there’s nothin really wrong with that.
