This tune was first published in 1816. The editor of the collection was sceptical that it had any great antiquity - though I am more interested by the suggestion that it was composed in the midst of the forced migration from the Highlands and Islands in the early nineteenth century. The Gaelic title means "we are not afraid."

I have been playing classical guitar for longer than I care to remember (with never enough time to devote it when I was working). I have taken up the mandolin and tenor banjo only very recently as a retirement project, playing mainly Irish and Scottish traditional music.
