I was in a misty landscape by a lake. The wind and lake was still. I found stillness. Not without emotion but with a new peace of mind and some sense of dignity in the humanness and vulnerability of being open to sorrow.  And in that way also letting it pass. Some days later this short musical piece came. 

In this recording I have tried something new. In my home i have an old upright piano (from ca 1910). It has moved with me everytime I move and has really become like a ragged old friend. I have earlier been hesitant to record it beacause the sound is a bit rough and you always get unwanted sound of the mechanics in the piano. Recently I´m starting to more see the beauty of imperfection. Perhaps when you can enjoy the singularieties and imperfection of people and things it is also easier to see the beauty in yourself and accept yourself as you are.

In Memoriam

A piece for grounding, unwinding and coming down to peace, rest and tranquility. Like a music box playing a piece inviting sleepiness. suitable for children also.

In this piece I've made improvisations over a descending scale in the left hand. I think of going down an old spiral staircase. Coming down to ground and peace. Leaving the worries of the day for a good night´s sleep.  Listen preferably on a low volume.

Waltz For Music Box And Orchestra

Richard Hellgren is a Swedish composer and multi instrumentalist living on an island in the Baltic Sea called Gotland. His pieces are minimalistic, contemplative and poetic in character. Sometimes a bit melancholy. Most of his recordings are made on his old malmsjö upright piano to which he has a very special relation to. Beside his musical career he has also pursued a career as a building architect. To him composing and drawing buildings are related in their creative process. "Architecture is about encompassing space and music is about encompassing silence!" His first EP Ainigma (june 14 2019) was released on the New York label Sonder House. In october 25 he made his second release on the same label with the EP Felt Transience.
