As we launch into the 20th instalment of our Watergate Mix series, it seems only fitting that we turn to one of our own artists to commemorate the milestone. A man already well known for his poignant and impassioned productions and DJ sets, we are thrilled to present Matthias Meyer as the next master of controls on Watergate 20! 

Over the course of 80 minutes, Meyer skillfully navigates through boundless sonic spaces of lush melodics, organic grooves and sentimental sensations with an effortless approach. From the very beginning, emotions run deep as the sound of rain and strings on Kettenkarussell's 'Ten Friends' sets the stage as YokoO & Retza's exclusive track 'Satori' and Leafar Legov's 'Tribal Girls' establish the percussive tone of the mix. The journey really begins to unfold when back to back exclusive tracks; Gorje Hewek & Izhevski's 'Turgoyakk' and Matthias' own 'Uluwatu' take over. As the mix picks up steam tracks from Palms Trax, Langenberg, Hyenah and another exclusive from Meyer himself provide the perfect momentum that drives us into the deeper side as the mix takes a turn towards the final stretch. The alluring sounds of Marco Resmann's 'Fluid Of Life' and Innervisions' Orchestral mix of Underworld's 'Crocodile' set the stage for a stunning farewell as Patlac's remix of Matthias' 'Ostinato' and Traumprinz' twist on Efdemin's 'Parallaxis' bid us adieu in a manner reminiscent of a 'Northern Exposure' mix from masters like Sasha and Digweed. 

From start to finish, Meyer displays his sound and range with a masters touch, demonstrating exactly the reason for his highly in demand status.

Watergate 20 - Matthias Meyer (excerpt)

It is one year ago that Mathias Kaden presented a very personal journey to his musical roots in the shape of an album called "Energetic". Equally as long he has been out in the world as a live act - with some large analogous luggage and the same joy of performing with which he had won many hearts as a DJ on the dancefloor beforehand. After the first batch of remixes (among others by Michael Mayer and Redshape) there are now following further revisions of three of the album's tracks. 

Finally, “Soulmakers“ and Spain again. The duo Pulshar drapes its remix in a warm dub blanket with many delays, soft strings and smoothly bouncing bass drums. The perfect conclusion to this second part of “Energetic” remixes.

The hugely successful partnership between Dennis Ferrer and Defected has a remarkable and prolific history. Some of Defected’s largest crossover hits have been delivered courtesy of Dennis’ incredibly intuitive production skills and when the two names are associated, the music is guaranteed to be ground-breaking. To everyone’s delight Dennis has an equally huge year coming up - this track with Ben Westbeech being the first taste of what you can expect from his forthcoming album.

Ben Westbeech (aka Breach) was responsible for two top ten hits in 2013, the iconic bassline track ‘Jack’ followed by ‘Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)’. This track with Dennis is a departure from the jacked-up style of those records, with more of a laidback, steadily building, main-room vibe. A catchy, silky-smooth vocal compliments Dennis’s customarily watertight production, making for an expansive, symphonic track that is sure to get hands raised on the dancefloor. For Dennis Ferrer fans this makes for an extraordinary return to Defected, and an indication of plenty more sensational new music coming right up.

I have always been a sucker for good songs and when amazing tunes like this drop into my inbox i feel like i have been the goodies on a silver platter.
On "Dance Pain" everything just sounds on point from beats, arrangement, arps and chords to the awesome vocal work done by JAW aka Nathan Daisy.
Rashid undoubtedly has a special flair for creating these hypnotic deephouse tunes.
I guess this is the follow up to "Night Prayer" from 2015. It definitely is just as good as that track and what a perfect opener for this Dark Stars 003 release.
Love at first listen for me and signed right away.

Rodriguez Jr. returns to Mobilee with his evocative album Baobab. Resident Advisor named the French artist in their Best Live Acts of 2016, and in between his famed live shows, he has created a ten track masterpiece that elicits powerful emotions through music.

It has mainly been written whilst travelling and I needed to re-connect to my roots: the music I used to listen to as a teenager from South Of France, my first parties, this fantastic sense of freshness, enthusiasm and innocence. This is why I decided to call it Baobab: a big tree proud to grow up in a lush surrounding, with it’s roots deep in the floor”.

Rodriguez Jr. understands the importance of empty spaces. The purposeful silences in-between each track enable reflection on what you have just heard. Skillfully using sounds and effects, he creates a masterclass in emotive music.
Collaborating with Liset Alea, the singer and composer from Nouvelle Vague, whose vocals shine through on three of the tracks of Baobab as well as Rodriguez Jr's own vocals on Heal Me, a track touching on the complexities of being human. Speaking about his collaboration with Liset, Olivier says, “the singer is a key part of this album as her voice is a link between different phases. The interaction in the studio has been extremely spontaneous and emotional”.
An Evidence Of Time opens the album with a heartbeat and steps into the intricacies of Olivier's mind. “Wake me, shake me, in the middle of the night, surprise me out of a dream” Liset Alea sings with a vulnerability on Waste Tomorrow, a track that is like an awakening, ending as abruptly as it begins. Liset returns in Take A Walk, it’s prolonged introduction heavy in mood and punctured with piano keys.
Radian floats away with a range of cosmic sounds brimming with atmosphere and the enchanting Monticello ramps up the intensity. Liset makes her final appearance in The Heart Is A Woman, bringing richness and depth before the album concludes with the elaborate Ellipsism, and the anthemic Tomorrow Never Comes.

Heavy Rotations Vol 1 is Maeve's first long player. Releasing a
compilation has long been an ambition of the label, however time was the
key component in producing a record we could all be proud of. The best
laid plans can often fall by the wayside, having a clear idea of what
you want to achieve with a record like this changes constantly as you
collect the pieces of the puzzle and try fit them together in a way that
makes sense.

As well as the label founders we started by also inviting friends that
had already released on Maeve, to contribute to the compilation. This
was a good starting point as each of those artists are all quite
different from one another so we felt it could produce some interesting
results. There was no brief, just a blank canvas to contribute something
they felt belonged on the label. It was also super important for us to
use this record as a platform for lesser known artists to showcase their
work.

So after 2 years of planning we finally have an 11 track compilation
together which will be delivered as a triple vinyl in early June. It is
a record that developed and changed a lot over that period but now is
something Maeve is very excited to share with the world.

On May 19th we will launch the record at Funkhaus Berlin with a line up
compiled of those who contributed to the compilation.

ON THEIR RETURN TO DESOLAT BARCELONA BASED MUSICIANS PULSHAR DELIVER A DELICIOUSLY DEEP AND TRIPPY EP

Following on from 2010’s critically acclaimed album ‘Inside’, Spanish duo Sergio Vidal and Pablo Bolívar aka Pulshar return to Desolat with the ‘Different Drum EP’, and all four tracks showcase the deeply hypnotic yet richly soulful sounds which the duo are synonymous with.

Opener ‘Wasting Time’ is a collaboration with Desolat label head Loco Dice. The track, which was creating during a jam session between these friends, is a deep and twisted journey, with ocean-deep sub-bass, and features Loco Dice’s own distorted vocals which echo in and out of the music.

On ‘So Tired’, Pulshar have expertly crafted a captivating rich soundscape packed full of warm textures and atmospheres. ‘Different Drum’ is a similarly engaging and uplifting track complete with soaring synths and crisp drums.

The 12” is rounded up by the standout ‘She’s Got A Ticket’, with its infectious groove, rich sounds and contagious vocal layered over its psychedelic rhythm.

On ‘Different Drum’ Pulshar have demonstrated with aplomb why over the last few years their distinctive and soulful brand of psychedelic electronic music has been turning heads and moving dancefloors.

This record took a while to be finished but we're glad to finally release this beautiful EP from Matthew. The title track ‚Heimreise‘ has already been around a few years ago but never got to be released officially due to the vocal sample. After speaking to Matthew he sent us the track and we used it in our Cercle set last year which gave the track a second life and lots of people were asking for an official release. After lengthy negotiations the sample could be cleared and licensed and we finally finished the EP. We worked on a remix for ‚Heimreise' what turned out to be quite a challenge but after all we could wrap it up right before deadline and the whole record was ultimately done and set to release.

These two originals need no big introduction or explanation. ‚Heimreise' and 'Random Dub Fix' are wonderful displays of Matthews Dekay’s ability to create such hypnotic grooves that almost put you in a state of meditation. We still have so much fun playing these out that we really think this is a timeless piece of music. Thank you all for the patience, we’re happy that ‚Heimreise' found its forever home with Siamese.
