PROTUS is an a cappella chamber vocal ensemble comprised of choral artists from Louisville Kentucky. Formed in January of 2014 by artistic director, Richard Burchard, the group is dedicated to the research and performance of lesser-known choral repertoire from the Middle Ages through the Renaissance and occasionally newly composed works. The group's repertoire includes music for mixed choir as well as pieces for "low-voice" ensemble that extends into ranges below and above most modern day TTBB works. PROTUS is a Greek word for "first" and is used in Medieval western music to identify the first pair of melodic church modes more commonly known as Dorian and Hypodorian.

Creator Alme Siderum is for SATB DV A Cappella Choir and was commissioned by the Cathedral of the Assumption Choir, Louisville, KY, David B. Lang, music director. This recording is from a concert performance by the Northern Kentucky University Chamber Choir under the direction of Dr. Randy Pennington that took place on April 4, 2006, at St. James Catholic Church in Louisville, KY.
