On Bill Johnson's suggestion we incorporated spoken word from Roger Hallam's interview on Hard Talk where he discusses the Climate Emergency and our need to act now. Bill's editing and brilliant production gives the track it's power to haunt and hopefully stay with you.

Things aren’t going quite as well

This picture has a tale to tell 

Of cup cakes in the kitchen 
Picnics on the lawn
Flowers cut from her garden
To brighten up my lonely room

In her brand new shoes 
she walked to the river
Keeping to the path 
to protect the leather

And the blister 
was a constant reminder 
Of every step that had carried her 

closer

to the water

Tho’ the petals fade and petals fall
this picture still remains
of our time together
by my bedside framed

she stepped off the bank
and the water broke her fall 
and just for a minute 
she really seemed to float 

but then she sank 

                          thanks to the stones 

                                             she’d sewn 

into the pockets of grandfather’s overcoat


We filter out the sadness
Edit out the pain
Crop out the sorrow
til nothing real remains

and images of her life 
flashed before her eyes

of madeleines and moonbeams
red balloons and breakfast trays
bacon, eggs - and a diamond ring 
fizzing in a flute of chilled champagne

and the joy then 
was just as intense 
as the sorrow
that was to follow

as today gives way to tomorrow

and the blister?

Well, I added the blister to remind me of my sister

who only exists 

                               in the mists 

                                                         of my memory
