Phil Best, virtuoso pianist and composer releases new album - 𝘍𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘴 & 𝘔𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴.

An album of 20 short piano improvisations, occasionally with sections repeated, Phil creates a completely spontaneous outpouring but with a powerful sense of rhythmic unfolding or storytelling that renders even trivial events, dramatic, momentous or pivotal. Nothing is planned or contrived but never whimsical or random. Just true! Phil uses improvised piano music to describe deep inner states - beyond the scope of language - and does so with real precision and clarity.

This is everything to me

I improvised this album of piano pieces spontaneously, in a single sitting. It was done late at night, to process whatever anxieties were causing my insomnia. So, the feelings being expressed are often dark and unsettled but the catharsis worked, as it often does, bringing solace.

Wonderwall, cool song from Oasis.  Most pop songs don't sound great just played on a piano, but I could do some interesting things with this one, turned out well!  All of my music is interesting, take a listen, I have a lot on all platforms.  Enjoy!

A hymn composed by Mr Richards, headteacher of East End Methodist School, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, in 1926. This arrangement is adapted from the harmonisation of Noel Dexter (1938-2019). Lyrics verses 1-3 by Mr Richards; lyrics verse 4 by Everissa Ludena Lettsome Wheatley (1914-1993), used with permission. Recorded for organ by Richard M.S. Irwin.

1. Corn we are bringing gilded with sunshine,
Gifts of the Lord to the hungry and poor.
Type of our Saviour, the true bread from heaven,
