J-Evens started Surge in early 2020 and lived up to it’s name. As “a sudden powerful movement” entails Surge struck the minimal house scene with top releases at lighting speed, gaining respect and following along the way. Liverpool based friend and experienced producer Canty joined the movement later during the year and now the two label heads are working hard to make 2021 another huge year for Surge. The mutual respect between our labels for each other’s work has laid the foundation for a strong relationship and to kick this off J-Evans and Canty have made a high energy mix for our podcast series.

Close to Custom, born about 30 years ago on the dune grounds of Katwijk. A
a place where there really was no scene for electronic music.
When he started making music, he wanted to go in a totally different direction.
Soon he and his friends were attracted to house music. They wanted to make
tasty, funky and especially danceable records. Full of passion Close to Custom
made his first records on his equipment in 2010.

Soon followed trips to the Netherlands and abroad to be inspired by
the scene there. After searching for clubs in London and Berlin, among other things, he knew for sure; this music, this experience and such an atmosphere. I also want to get that. In 2014 came the great opportunity that Close to Custom and his friends Fyrone and Den Haas had to take. The local music venue was recently renovated and looked for new concepts to fill evenings. The men took the opportunity and started their own minimal house concept, Reset. Against all odds, the evening became a huge success.

Without doubt, these nights inspired him to fully focus on the future, and develop his own production which now resides into a minimal house sound, mainly driven by fast-rolling grooves catchy hooks and deep bass sounds.

This week we have Denis Hodak, better known as HUDI. He found his love for electronic music in 2010 and since then he has had numerous performances throughout Croatia and abroad. Hudi is one of the organizers of the Zagreb collective Myuz and the Vinkovci collective Naša Stvar. He won the Ambassador Award 2016 for the best Podcast of the Year by the audience and in 2019, together with his team Myuz, he won the Audience Award for the best club evening by the Ambassador.
