Raised by wolves in suburban Doubleview, Ray came into music by a vast, circuitous route spanning decades and this great continent of Australia.

In school, his two main passions were music and computing.  After counselling by a much-loved but unfortunately deranged godfather "Computing is a dead-end job, Ray.", he threw himself into a career in Primary teaching where he excelled in holidays, maths, programmable calculators and early computer-based games.  As significant as these achievements were, it failed to advance him towards his certification in Primary teaching and he left college before attaining his diploma.

Disguised as a storeman at a local chemical warehouse, the next months passed uneventfully until a delivery to the Perth Xmas Pageant resulted in an inadvertent explosion.  After the hysterical mobs had dissipated, and somewhat under a cloud, Ray struck out for Sydney to seek fame and fortune in office furniture delivery.

Entranced by the burgeoning punk movement, his talent for unfettered swearing and encyclopaedic knowledge of every sort of profanity was quickly recognised and put to good use.  As bass-player for "The Immoderates", a left-wing, radical and anarcho-syndicalist power pop/punk/boot-scooting outfit, he travelled the east coast of Australia extensively, unconsciously and osmotically absorbing the communication skills that would serve him so well in later life.

Enrolling at the NSW State Conservatorium of Music (just in time to receive a Diploma in Piano Tuning and Technology) made his transition into the highly lucrative field of piano tuning almost completely painless.  In order to make ends meet during this period, a brief foray into the still-embryonic world of stand-up comedy with his show "Nobody Takes Me Seriously" promised to propel Ray from local unknown into international obscurity until a disastrous microphone handling incident brought the presentation to a premature close.  Further details of this unfortunate episode can be found in his soon-to be written autobiography "From Rags to More Rags".

At this juncture, Ray mailed himself back to Perth and started on the downward spiral that would eventually bottom out with his enrolment at TAFE.  He has made vast contributions to the local music scene playing with “The Funkin’ Wagnalls”, “The SunKings”, “The Stone Kings”, “The Completely Hopeless Bastards - But Honest”, “Wicked Sista”, “Hot Chilli”, “Onions, Apathy and the Odd Snake”, “Medicated Cat”, “Juice”, “The SunKings” (again) and finally “The Rock Mobsters”.  His prodigious recording output includes “Hot Chilli – Other Peoples’ Greatest Hits” and a solo outing “Too Pissed and Too Late At Night – Live”.  For a small fee and all he can drink he will provide anecdotes and corroborative detail that will astound tyros, cognoscenti and critics alike.
