The creative process of "The Soul Tapes Vol.2"

Prod.By CJG started producing "The Soul Tapes Vol.2" in January 2023. He stared by listening to soul bands and singers to get an understanding for the soul sound that he intended on capturing. Prod.By CJG then began to find samples for "The Soul Tapes Vol.2" from a range of soul bands and singers. Prod.By CJG sampled a mixture of sounds such as vocals, guitars, bass lines and sections of records. He used samplers such as "Output Arcade", "AKAI MPK" and Logic Pro X's synthesiser Alchemy as it has granular synthesis capabilities. All the drums were sequenced and arranged By CJG Prod. that are heavily influenced by Hip-Hop, Trap, Lo-Fi, Drill and Pop. Prod.By CJG wanted "The Soul Tapes Vol.2" to sound like a beat tape from the past that gives off a very analog feel to the listener. To achieve this Prod.By CJG used VST plugins (virtual studio technology) that emulate analog  hardware equipment such as Waves "J37 tape saturator", "PuigChild 660 & 670 compressor" and the "SSL EQ".

The Soul Tapes Vol.2 Story

"The Soul Tapes Vol.2" tells a story with an intro that is sampled from famous news reports over the decades. Such as the LA riots, Bay of pigs, Paul Castellano and the Iraq war. Between each news report there is the sound of a radio changing frequencies as the sampled news report changes from one another and fades out. This is to represent that if we change our own frequencies and outlook at life we can block out all the hate, destruction and war in the world and our own life. Every record on 'The Soul Tapes Vol.2" has the word love in the title. The reason why each record on "The Soul Tapes Vol.2" has the word love in it is to give the listener the idea that we are combating all the hate, destruction and war with love throughout the whole beat tape, while changing our outlook on life and the world. The last record on "The Soul Tapes Vol.2" is the only beat on the tape that isn't influenced by Soul or has Soul samples in it. This is to give the listener the feeling that they have reached a summit of inner peace, the beat is composed with large brass sections, deep 808s, Trap drums and trumpet sections accompanied with Trap Hi-Hats. Prod.By CJG wanted the beat to give the listener the feeling that they had reached something and that the beat tape has came to a finale type of ending.
