In the run up to his slot at Ritual next month, Calibre has kindly served us an excellently crafted podcast.

The mix is an showcase of the emphatic, dark and rolling drum and bass which has won Martin much acclaim and support from the likes of dnb pioneer Fabio, who was the first in the scene to notice the producer's talent and sign him to Creative Source. 

Since then, he has grown into one of the household names of the drum and bass world, as his numerous albums and this year's excellent Fabric mix confirm.

On Saturday 5th October, Calibre is to headline at Ritual, a night held at Fulham venue Under The Bridge. Not known for its bass scene, West London will see some of the finest in current underground music, with a line up featuring DJ EZ as well as newcomers Bodhi and Last Japan as well as Calibre himself.

With 500 capacity and immense soundsystem, Under The Bridge is a step away from raw, unadorned warehouses, instead offering visuals and UV lighting to compliment the massive sound of the DJs.

Fabio's Liquid Funk Volume 1 is a compilation album curated by renowned DJ Fabio, a pioneer in the drum & bass genre. Released in the early 2000s, it showcases the more atmospheric, soulful side of drum & bass, often referred to as "liquid funk." The album features smooth, melodic rhythms, jazzy influences, and soulful vocals, blending the energetic pace of drum & bass with a laid-back, deeper vibe. This collection includes tracks from some of the genre’s leading artists, offering a more refined and polished sound compared to harder, more aggressive subgenres of dnb. DJextreme - 1995 Jungle Drum & Bass [Jungletrain Mix EXT069]

DJ Junk started djing in 1988 with Hip-Hop & Electro, mostly for his breakers to practice to and progressed onto hardcore by 1991, selling tapes known as "Junk Hardcore" through shops & outside raves. By 1992, he was desperate to make his own music and convinced Rodger from local rave outfit Tone Def to use his studio. The tracks were played by all of the big names, including on Radio by Slipmatt. Junk went on to release a total of 12 Hardcore/Jungle 12"s, as well as releasing some house/hard house tunes under the name of Blister Sisters. I've taken almost all of the tracks from the Junk releases 92-95, as well as some previously unreleased tracks. The unreleased tracks are currently available or soon to be available on Spandangle Selection....

I recently found a whole bunch of mixes I did between 1992 and 1997 and started the long process of ripping the cassettes to mp3.
As I work through them in no particular order I’ll put them up here for download.
Remember the sound quality isn’t great as they were all recorded through a mixer with no EQ and committed to cassette on a shabby home stereo…But what the hell, it’s that authentic 90s sound through and through.
