Been teaching myself to mix for about a week on a nearly new DDJ-FLX4, started streaming my practices on Twitch and people have been very supportive.

Technical difficulties meant I couldn't stream today so thought I'd try and record my practice, after one failed recording through Audacity, I realised I could record in rekordbox 🤦‍♂️

Did a quick test recording, and this is a result.

Context:
Started the week barely beatmatching intros and outros (I'm not using sync for now)... progressed to starting to overlay songs midweek, but was too timid to attempt doubles so would just fade the old track out.... by the end of the week someone on stream explained and encouraged me to attempt doubles.

Up until this point I'd mainly been relying on adjusting the lows and had barely touched the highs and mids 😳 For this practice I used a better monitor and this was my first real attempt at using all three levels.

All tracks were picked at random from 20 or so I downloaded free from soundcloud/hypeddit today and had only listened to once.

Learning To Mix

About A Week

Between technical difficulties and poor mental health I haven't managed to do much mixing practice or streaming recently.

Finally got back to it over the weekend with a couple of short practices, managed to rip the audio from my stream yesterday, and despite a few mistakes and twitch alerts don't think it sounds too bad so thought I'd share it here to document my progress.

Have expanded my DNB collection quite a lot, and am slowly learning my library, as you'll probably be able to tell this playlist wasn't planned and I was just picking tracks at random based on key/bpm/phrasing/memory.

Still haven't learned to use cue points or anything fancy, but think I'm getting better at reconising phrasing in the music and adjusting the EQs. Still not using Sync.
