Hang onto your hats crew, Melbourne’s rocktastic Rich Webb & The Liars have captured lightning in a bottle with first single Mess of It.

This slinky, roller coaster of a number nears the intersection of rock and something more alternative before shooting off and messing up in the only way you need to go about it – boldly, with a big grin and lashings of rollocking charm. 

You will know these folks already. Rich Webb vocals/guitar has a bag of solo albums including 
Le Rayon Vert, the IMA’s 2019 Alt-Country album of the year. 

Alics Gate-Eastley bass/vocals is from The Well Oiled Sisters, Jim Carden drums/vocals The Warner Brothers, while guitar ace Matt Dixon a host of bands, too many to mention.
Together, they make a roaring mess that’s unforgettable. 

Mess of It will be on the streamers from Friday 23 May. Single launch is a week later – Friday 30 May – at the Northcote Social Club, where they will be joined by Alison Ferrier and the Upshots and Norwood.


MESS OF IT - Rich Webb & The Liars

Brett Whiteley. We all know who he is. Melbourne’s Rich Webb & The Liars have a compelling new track called Hummingbird inspired by the late, great artist. 

This instantly hypnotic number starts classically then blows apart, capturing the sometimes abrasive fight between form and learning and something much larger again. It’s out on the streamers from Monday 11 August.

The song was written by Rich following a visit to Whiteley’s studio in Surry Hills, Sydney. The hummingbird is a recurring motif in Whiteley’s work over many years.

Rich: “I love loads of what Brett Whiteley did and the wonderful other worldliness you get from his art.

“I wanted to try and capture that and also express what seems like a continual battle between learning and yourself. Experience and learning are useful for sure, but they can’t rule everything you do. I feel the need constantly to get off the rails somehow, where things can be uncomfortable. Get out of my depth and take a look from there. But balancing these two quite different things feels like a charged bottle about to explode. I was trying to get that down somehow too.”

Move On Over was recorded live by the Rich Webb Trio on the last tour Germany. It's from the recently released "Armchair Sessions' six-track live EP, out now on All Killer Music. 

The track features Rich Webb on vocals/acoustic; George-Savva Georgiou on bass/vocals and Phil Wakeman on lead guitar/vocals. The six tracks were recorded one late night in Hannover.
