Slum Village - Tainted (Iggy Jazz edit)

In the closing months of 2012 BBE label artist Chris Read was enlisted by classic Los Angeles imprint Delicious Vinyl to produce a mixtape for Wax Poetics magazine celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the release of The Pharcyde's seminal debut LP 'Bizarre Ride'. The resulting mix was a runaway success clocking tens of thousands of plays online and kickstarted a relationship with the label that would go on to see Chris remix two of the group's best loved tracks, 'Runnin' and 'Passin Me By'.

Those tracks are now available for the first time on this limited edition BBE x Delicious Vinyl double vinyl 7inch release. Treating the familiar original with respect, Chris has called upon the vocal talents of long time collaborators Lizzy Parks (Tru Thoughts) and guitarist Giles Barratt (Breakin Bread) to rework passages from 'Runnin' to create a 2014 update on the themes of the much loved Jay Dee produced classic. 'Passin Me By' meanwhile gets a '90s throwback rework utilising sample material from the original to great effect to create a track which bears all the hallmarks of the golden era.
Mastered and cut by Walter Coelho who cut Jay Dee's 'Welcome to Detroit' back in 2001, the circle is complete!

Friday April 19th marks the three-year anniversary of the passing of Guru and this track, “G.U.R.U.” f/ Talib Kweli & DJ Premier is dedicated to his memory and a celebration of his life, legacy and all of the vast accomplishments and great music he and DJ Premier gave us. “G.U.R.U.” also serves as the lead-single from Marco Polo’s forthcoming LP, PA2: The Director’s Cut, which will be released in July 2013 on SoulSpazm Records.

Marco Polo f/ Talib Kweli & DJ Premier 'G.U.R.U."

Been collecting and making music for a long time and have been lucky enough to be involved in some great music projects.

I was resident DJ with Scratch in London (est. 1996), toured Europe as a DJ with my own projects and worked with Damon Albarn's Africa Express and Gorillaz SoundSytem as tour DJ, playing across the globe where I was also involved in creating unique production and remix work.

I'm  a proud producer of 2 LP's, collaborating with some of my favourite Hip hop artists from the East Coast of America on 'Live at Home' (Sevenheads 2002) and some of the most talented musicians and Artists from West Africa, Ghana on my 'Ye Fre Mi Richy Pitch' LP. (BBE Records 2010)

When not making music, I teach and write about it.
In 2013 my 'Making Beats' book was published by Cengage Learning.

Currently, thoroughly enjoying making lots of new music... look out for new releases in 2023/24!
