Way, way back in 1985, I produced a sweeper package using (looking back, it was more like “over-using) the new-at-the-time technology of digital sampling.  I had been a producer at TM a few years before this and shared the new package with a buddy who was still at TM.  They liked it and asked if they could rep the package.  I was flattered.  This is the demo I wrote and produced to promote the package.

Here’s audio grabbed from the recently found original analog master.  17 tracks from the DVI sweeper package produced for HOT 103 in New York back in October 1986.  Not the best audio quality thanks to the aging tape and I have to remember that this was all done on a primitive AKAI S612 sampler… but I hope the diehard HOT fans will enjoy hearing it.

Thinking outside the box to find huge “booms” inside the box… a cardboard box.  By placing large a cardboard box directly over a large diaphragm condenser mic – you can create some awesome low rumbling impacts.  When you lightly tap the sides of the box, you not only record the sound the cardboard makes but also the effect of the air pressure that the air movement creates inside the box.  Drop the pitch down an octave and you’ve got some big sounding impacts.   www.RickAllenCreative.com

On a visit to the heart of Texas, I discovered a historical train station built in 1931 that closed in 1967.  The large empty lobby was classic art deco with beautiful marble and stone hard surfaces throughout.  The reverberating ambience inside was just as beautiful as the stone work.  This is a wav file of the impulse response of this interior space.  Feel free to download it and use it in whatever convolution reverb plug-in you use.   www.RickAllenCreative.com
