Ricki has stepped into the realm of tackling a subject that all of us have in common... Dying. The twist however is that Ricki has taken a semi light hearted look at the topic and made a tune so catchy, that it will be stuck in your head for weeks to come. Ricki guarantees that after hearing this song, if anyone ever says the words 'thats alright' to you, you will hear this song in your head.

Musically it harks back to the classic Australiana country style of Slim Dusty and John Williamson and has an instant familiarity to it. This song is the lead track of Ricki's upcoming 5-song EP 'sometimes I wonder', available from 15th of Feb 2024. Ricki is focusing on releasing the album in CD format and only putting singles up on streaming platforms. The EP is also available in full from his Bandcamp page where there are links on his website.

“Bruised” is a deeply introspective acoustic track, originally penned over a decade ago and now vividly brought to life in Ricki Wood’s Live @ Hello performance (released 14 February 2025)

In it, Ricki reflects on 13 years of working and performing within the church—bearing the weight of youthful mistakes and the scars of complicated beliefs (“I’ve carried the weight / Been bruised by stones / And misled from the truth”) 

As the song unfolds, he revisits old rituals and sacred texts, only to discover that the path to authenticity lies not in external doctrine, but within: “43 years… I realised the soul I was searching is the one within me” 

Rooted in raw, soulful vocals and tender acoustic guitar, “Bruised” captures the emotional journey of shedding ingrained expectations and embracing self-belief. It’s a quiet anthem of inner reconciliation—seeking forgiveness not from others, but from oneself—and finding true faith in personal growth.

“One” is a serene, nature‑inspired reflection from Ricki Wood’s sometimes I wonder EP (released January 11, 2024) Penned during a rustic house‑sit in rural Queensland, the song emerged organically—lyrics and melody flowing in half an hour—as an ode to connection, presence, and calm. 

Set against gentle acoustic guitar, Ricki invites listeners into a meditative space with imagery like:

“Sitting on country
In the warm winter sun…
And I know we are one.”

The recurring motif of “vibration” and “hum” evokes the harmony between self, loved ones, and the land. It’s a quiet, heartfelt piece—rooted in Aussie pastoral life—that encourages mindfulness and unity: a lovely reminder of our shared ties to each other and to the earth.

My greatest fear

I wrote this song for my beautiful wife, Adele—back before we were married. At the time, I was away most weekends touring, and we had this little ritual of leaving messages for each other on the bathroom mirror. One day I walked in to find the words “You’re my home” written there.

After years of traveling the world and living in all kinds of places, that simple message hit me deeply. For the first time, I truly felt what home meant—and it had nothing to do with four walls. It was about the love and connection we shared.

Another time she had written 'You're my big love'. I probably owe Adele royalty payments. LOL

In April 2021, Adele and I set off on the road with our caravan, not knowing how long we’d be gone. Four years later, we’re still wandering Australia together. And through all of it, that feeling of home has only grown stronger. It’s clearer than ever that home isn’t a place—it’s us.

“Get Back Boss Man” is a rollicking, autobiographical slice of alt‑country truth from Ricki's sometimes I wonder EP (January 11, 2024) 

With driving acoustic guitar and cheeky vocals, he recounts late-night bar frustration with a demanding boss (“I was sick of work. My boss was a jerk”). When alcohol fuels rebellion, the chorus defiantly rings out:

“Get back boss man / Get the hell off my back / Sick of his shit / I was itchin' to quit… I hit the road and I ain’t goin’ back.”

What makes it hit home is the honesty: Ricki sings about balancing six-day work weeks at a music store with playing five gigs a week in Auckland—barely seeing his kids between the grind 

It’s a raw, energetic tale of burnout, escape, and reclaiming one’s freedom—a rootsy anthem for anyone who’s ever hit their limit and walked away.
