Since the release of Volume 1 in 2012, Craig has barely had a chance to change his socks, presenting his massively popular radio show on BBC 6 Music and having been on an almost constant DJ tour - dragging his Trunk Of Funk far and wide to play for increasingly large audiences, including kicking off the Glastonbury Festival with a 4 hour set, causing all manner of musical mayhem at WOMAD 2013, tearing the roof off the Soundwave festival in Croatia - as well as hosting his regular club nights at Manchester's Band On The Wall - with block rocking live shows from names like US funk legend Lee Fields, Spain's Sweet Vandals and Australia's toughest raw funk collective Deep Street Soul amongst many others.

And so - the man, the myth, the legend, the not-so-tall, the not-so-dark, the not-so-handsome Craig Charles has hand picked fresh and classic nuggets from the very best soul, funk & dance floor grooves around for Volume 2 of his top selling compilations series.

This edition contains some 100% completely brand new exclusive tracks not heard anywhere before, including Dr Rubberfunk's 'Creek Walk', Emma Beatson and The Hawkmen's track 'Do It', and Lack Of Afro's 'The Outsider - Part 2' which was recorded specifically for this album.

You have to hear Cookin' On 3 Burners Hammond funk version of Gary Numan's Cars, you will flip your lid twice when you hear funk royalty Fred Wesley & Anthony Joseph join forces on Mops Mop's Run Around, and your ears will buy you flowers in gratitude once you have treated them to The Hot 8 Brass Bands version of The Specials Ghost Town and the original acid jazz troubadours James Taylor Quartets debut 1987 single Blow Up!

There are indeed living legends featured, not only Jocelyn Brown featuring on Jessica Lauren's funking gospel style stomper Happiness Train, but two appearances from the recently honoured Omar LyeFook MBE - who not only guests on Lack Of Afro's remix of The Hidden Jazz Quartett's High Heels, but also as impressively on the brand new version of his massive early 90's hit There's Nothing Like This - which features bass player to the gods Pino Palladino.

The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club Vol 2 is the gift that just keeps on giving - it's like having Craig himself DJ-ing in your house. June 1999 - the first ever NMS studio recording. Six original ditties recorded on 8-track 1/4" reel-to-reel in the basement of former Mastersounds percussionist Sam Bell's house in Chapel Allerton, Leeds. Intended purely as a notepad to help Bob & Pete learn the tunes that Si and Eddie had already been playing for a couple of years, the recording fell into the hands of London-based DJ and promoter Clive Johnson, who suggested releasing some of the tunes on limited-edition 7" singles on his recently-formed Blow It Hard imprint.

The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club returns - and Volume 3 is a truly international round up of all things hip, happening and gorgeously groovy!

Since Volume 2 was released a year ago, I've continued my mission to spread the sound of good grooves right around the world, not just via my radio shows on 6Music and BBC Radio 2, or by DJ-ing to a huge sea of humanity at Glastonbury Festival 2014, but I also took my trunk of funk to Australia to spread my kind of dance floor dynamite to Antipodean audiences hungry for fresh soulful sounds and some foot stomping funk.

My brand new selection really does have it all - the feel good, piano pumping, hand clapping work out Do Your Thing by 6ix Toys is a joyous opener that should have anyone with a working pair of legs jumping up to get down.

There is a great selection of seductive, female voices across Volume 3 - Sophia Bastians' gutsy, blues drenched Breaking is a minor key wonder, Sena Dagadus' strutting afrobeat anthem Accra City People rolls over the horizon like a steam train with no brakes - and Juliette Ashbys' sexy and sassy Like A Bass Guitar digs down deep into a funk heavy groove in all the right ways, and The Getups' featured vocalist Sabina Challenger rides on the bands trademark tight Hammond funk groove like an award winning surfer.

21st century neo-soul makes it's presence felt too - Harleighblus' crisp and rugged 'Play Me' leads perfectly to the UK Soul Don #1 Omar's massive tune The Man, the track that became an instant classic and saw the album of the same name top charts and reach places you might not expect, as even long time fan Prince Charles owns a copy!

Omar isn't the only legendary male voice featured - ladies and gentlemen, hold my calls! We've only got the legend that is Afrika Bambaataa featuring onThe Mighty Mocambos funking hip hop roof raiser It's The Music Part 1 - and Australian superstar Daniel Merriweathers' bluesy vocal on Cookin On 3 Burners Losin' Steak makes it clear why people like Mark Ronson beat a path to his door when its talented man tonsils they require! Talking of talent - I have to admit to a major amount of fatherly pride when listening to Lack Of Afro's Missing Me as it is indeed my first born, Jack Tyson Charles handling the vocal duties, it's a beautiful soul number that's one of my favourite tracks of 2014 - and it would be even if it wasn't my boy singing that sweet chorus, nice work kid!

Boogaloo, soul-jazz and latin sounds feature strongly too - Sunlight Squares' Vamanos Pal Monte will without doubt make your dancing feet itchy,Speedometers huge selling reworking of Pharell Williams Happy will have you soul clapping and spinning like you are at Wigan Casino - and Ray Lugo & The Boogaloo Destroyers El Ritmo De Nuevo York will make you feel like your back in late 60's New York partying with Ray Barreto & Mongo Santamaria, and The Andre Espeut Quintets' Let It Go is jazzy enough to make even girls grow a goatee beard.

The Craig Charles Funk & Soul Club Volume 3 does even more than it says on the tin - 19 personally selected, party starting slices of full fat grooves proves, as the saying goes that 3 is indeed the magic number!

Anilza Pinho de Carvalho, better known by her stage name Anilza Leoni was a Brazilian actress, singer, former ballerina and painter.

Balumba is uptempo samba jazz at it’s finest. Originally appeared on a very obscure 7” on Copacobana in 1967 entitled ‘Enfarte Musical / Festa Do Balamba’, and was included by Nicola Conte on his Viagem Vol. 4 compilation.

Sambalanço Trio were formed by Cesar Camargo Mariano, Humberto Clayber and Airto Moreira in 1960’s Sao Paulo. The group released some of the most important records of the period and in the genre of samba-jazz.

When the group split in 1965 Airto formed Quarteto Novo with Hermeto Pascoal, and Cesar Mariano went on form Som Tres.

Sam Blues is a Mr Bongo HQ favourite - uptempo bossa jazz fusion, taken from their self-titled LP originally released on Audio Fidelity (Brazil) in 1964.
