It's been quite awhile since my last upload so I figured what better opportunity to record a new mix and contribute to our Conscious Wave resident mix series.

As for this mix, it is a strictly 140 bpm, introspective dubstep mix and the tracklist is a slight nod to our platform being 10 years old this year. This is definitely one for the deep heads so be sure to listen on something that vibrates low.

This mix was a fun one for me.  The build came fairly easy.  I had all the pieces, I just needed to find the right spot for everything.  It starts off at 127bpm in the realm of techno.  Slowly working onto some chill breaks.  Then upping the tempo into the 130s with some higher energy electro.   The back half the mix is 140bpm breaks, into some fast percussive 150bpm stompers. Solid Steel in association with Serato (23rd October) In Hour 2 it's a 'DJ Madd Re-Influenced mix' where the Hungarian artist drops a special mix looking back and deconstructing music he loved growing up. He told us;
"I had the idea to make an influences mix for some time but I wanted it to be a bit more special than a collection of tracks I listened to growing up. I came up with the idea to load the tracks into the software I write music in, and treating it as one long project the same way i write music: Adding and removing parts, leaving tracks playing or totally re-writing them. The selection had to be started with one of my earliest memories of music which was Paul Simon’s Graceland album which my mother used to listen to all the time. That definitely turned me onto african influenced music with the reggae and dub influences such as Bob Marley or The Specials soon to follow. As a teenager I was really into oldschool hip-hop and after I found out there is this crazy genre called jungle that uses sped-up hip-hop beats I was instantly hooked. I religiously followed early Bristol jungle and d&b, poking around old trip-hop, and discovering ragga-jungle through Congo Natty, where all these influences from dub / fast breaks and ragga vocals seem to come together. To this day these versions can only be heard in this mix and to keep it special, I think it will remain that way."

Hey thanks for dropping by.  I was born in Barbados in the mid 70s and was raised in Toronto, and moved back and forth between the reggae, hiphop, and jungle scenes.  I moved to the west coast in the late 90s and spend most of my time rock climbing, snowboarding, downhill biking or making reggae influenced bass music.  I also teach highschool math and physics, enjoy rock climbing, snowboarding and dh biking.  I started making beats and performing using a combination of an old roland 303 and live hand drumming and soon progressed into vinyl DJing and electronic music production - starting with Propellerhead’s Rebirth and Reason until settling on Ableton Live.  Currently using an Access Virus TI, Elektron Rytm + Digitakt + Digitone.  I have been fortunate enough to put out original tunes on Earthday Recordings, East Van Digital, LW Recordings, Woodworking Records, Blackfox Records, Really Good Records, Squinty Bass Records, and Sheppard Records. I have also performed at a number of festivals in Canada: 
Diversity Festival (9 years), Basscoast (3 years), Shambhala (4 years), Squamish Live, SERF music fest (3 years), Fairies n' Fools, Entheos Festival, OM Festival, and the Believe Festival.
