The Local Natives co-founder embarks on his solo career with his first release under his own name. For Kelcey, it’s a time of firsts: The songs on the upcoming EP ‘No Sleep’ were inspired by the birth of his first child. “Don’t Look Down” grew out of an “all-night panic attack” just after Oskar’s birth, Kelcey tells SoundCloud, when he was feeling “more love, and more fear, than I’d ever felt.” “Different Planets” began while he was experimenting with a ukulele someone gave his son as a gift, so the song feels “cosmic”: “It wouldn’t exist if my son didn’t exist.”
