Haunted, scattered breaks loom over the title track, a modern apocalyptic Hardcore journey where rave sirens puncture the feverous rinse-out tension throughout. The Alantis Dub flips the script, doubling down on the atmosphere while upping the tempo to screw-face the chaos within its experimental D’n’B fever dream. Both tracks showcase ELLLL’s exceptional production chops with its nuanced textural trickery & immersive sound design skills. London’s Parris then rewires the OG, simmering the tempo down low to 110bpm for a sinister nocturnal skank for the night fiends who thrive when entering into first light.

AM: What have you been up to recently? 

Actually not a lot of things because of the coronavirus ahah, but without work I had time to listen to a lot of music (too much actually, it’s been really hard to select tracks for the podcast, I guess it’s my FOMO side), I also tried to continue to keep some shows on Rinse, like recently with Banoffee Pies records with Elliott Weston and Tristan Arp and probably another one with Clemency, we also plan to invite Gigi FM for a GDN Show with E-Unity, can’t wait!

AM: We're big fans of your shows on Rinse FR, what inspired you to get into DJing?

It’s really hard to answer as I started really young (maybe high school around 2004) before DJs started to be famous as today, or at least I wasn’t aware of it at this time.
I think the « french touch » era has always been my basic in electronic music and obviously I listened to them as a teenager, so when I started really getting interested about this music, they were the first I saw DJing. But I have to say that post-dubstep era with Hessle crew, Joy Orbison, even Night Slugs and Burial above all, slapped me so hard when I heard this new kind of sound during my internet digging sessions (it wasn’t really highlighted at this time in France) that I wanted to play these tracks, dance on it and make people discover it.

AM: Where and how did you record the mix? Was there an idea behind it? A theme as such? 

I’m really slow to select tracks but this time I just focused on tracks from friends, mostly french but also from the UK, Poland… Almost everything is unreleased for now but I’m currently working on my proper label and there might be some of these artists or tracks appearing on it soon ;) I wanted to mix something representing what I like the most : something unpredictable, bringing something new, further genre limits, sometimes chilly, sometimes clubby, or just weird, I really like to be slapped by a music, questioning myself. I think that’s what defines electronic music from UK, it’s not a genre, more a mindset: to go forward, trying something new. It could be a theme of the mix, but it’s also the theme of the label, and the reason I love electronic music, it’s too sad to listen or produce to the same thing every day, life is too short.

AM: It’s tough at the moment, what was the last thing that made ya laugh & smile? 

I’m just came back from friend’s in Marseille in the south of France, they have an amazing flat just in front of the sea, a lot of my friends are moving in this city because of the coronavirus so it was just perfect to be with them all day long, we know each others since highschool and we stayed really close, so it was just best thing to forget all these problems.

Stepping up for an exciting entry in the Rhythmic Culture podcast series this week is Noods Radio and Psychotherapy Sessions resident k means. Taking her name from an algorithm that she used when writing a music recommendation system, k means has a soft spot for the darker and weirder facets of music. The Stockholm-born, London-based DJ, who got into electronic music through video games, forms one half of Avant Garbage with DJ ojo, whose show on Netil Radio explores the stranger margins of electronic music, and with Sarjan Paul she runs grassroots London club night Expansion Pak, with a commitment to booking under-the-radar talent.

In her mix she serves up all sorts of mind bending treats ranging from haunting and hypnotic sounds to sweaty party steppers and back to window-shaking-basslines, making it an hour long musical ping-pong that makes you want to come back for more.
