HAJJ delivers an absolute beauty of a mix, a vast bundle of contrasting styles all brought in to perfect harmony. A big favourite of ours so far, check it! 
We also caught up with HAJJ for a little chat, read below -


AM: The mix is huge! Definitely a favourite of ours, where & how did you record it? Was there a theme or such? 

I recorded it in my hut in Lastrack’s family garden In St Fons (Lyon) , with 2 XD700.
No theme just a direction with many roads. 


AM: It’s tricky to do much at the mo, what have you been up to recently?

I was making music for differents forthcoming various artists, visiting friends in Lille, Marseille an Paris, skate when the weather is not bad. 
I was also doin’ nothing, and always thinking and processing our government direction.. 

AM: The ep on BFDM last year is wicked, so many styles, what was your process for it and was it a long time in the making?

The process was simple, my friend Renart asked me to make my first live performance for his release party with, Jzbel, simo Cell, Voiski in 2018. 
i decided to create a A/V live with the rushs of a documentary i never finished.
I made theses tracks like the soundtrack of this documentary.
When Judaah had a listen and selected « My love is rotten the core » and «i tried to tell something about through this fucking phone » he asked me for a third track, it took me almost 3 years to finish the whole 3 tracks, because i’m lazy.

AM: Out of music, what are your interests?

too much interests but mainly making films/vidéo.


AM: Whats next for ya in 2021?
 
I'm working on new EP/LP for youth and slagwerk, and others labels.
Finishing writing my first Film about the end of the world.
Manage my label and forthcoming releases by Dodo, Ronce, and a big « trap/rap » various artists.

► Under the new moniker A/N, French producer Apollo Noir (@apollonoirisnoir) delves deeper into his music and casts a strong yet versatile sonic alloy of atmosphere, beat, voice and texture.

► ACIE E R R (alliteration, French for steel) is a raw, eloquent and fickle stream of consciousness of openness and transparency.

Coming from steel-city of Thiers, where his family forged a reputation as unrivaled knife manufacturers, A/N does not hide his deep bond with the age-old metal alloy and its making, which here become a structural metaphor in a work that inevitably goes deep into the emotional, the personal and the political.

A sort of ‘romanticism of steel’ sets the narrative mode of the eight tracker where moving chords progressions, pounding beats, synth washes and eerie vocal intrusions alternate grounded physicality and propulsive sways with unfathomable angelic hues and electro-acoustic subtleties.
Making use of a wide range of analog equipment and the invaluable help of drummer Seb Forrester, A/N’s textural sound stream tempers its gleaming chrome finishes by means of sonic shocks and sublime coatings of distorted warmth.

From the bubbling arpeggios of ‘Mentir En Temps De Crise’ and the organic texture of ‘Disparaître’, to the clustered sound particles of ‘Chromé’ and the instant-classic attitude of ‘Avoueur Condamner’ (Andy Stott, Lanark Artefax) ACIE E R R’s contrasting sonic energies bring openness and versatility into focus.

Following the devastating explosion at the Port of Beirut on August 4, Ma3azef teamed up with New York-based mastering engineer Heba Kadry to curate a compilation by regional and international musicians to raise funds for the continuous relief work being done on the ground in Beirut to help those who have been failed by the Lebanese state.

Today, we're happy to announce two additional remixes to be added to the compilation: ZULI's Kiwii, remixed by El Kontessa; Deena Abdelwahed's Wein El Malayeen, remixed  by Ancient Methods.

The 19-track compilation includes contributions by the likes of Fatima Al Qadiri, Nicolás Jaar, ZULI, Slikback, and others. Bringing sounds together from the different crevices of electronic music, it is a humble attempt to galvanize musicians and listeners into supporting a city that has been integral in shaping the region’s contemporary music scene.

All proceeds from the sales of the compilation are going to local initiatives to provide assistance to those affected, they will be divided between Fundraising Campaign for the Arts and Culture Community in Beirut organized by AFAC; Beirut Musicians' Fund organized by Tunefork Studios, and Beit el Baraka.

Debut release for The Fear Ratio's Mark Broom and James Ruskin under their 'Deadhand' alias, which proceeds on a strictly experimental hip-hop tip, accompanied as they are here by 4 x world scratch champion DJ Prime Cuts (of The Scratch Perverts) and illbient rap legend Sensational, who brings his characteristic broken charm to the EP's itchy, spartan production vibes: "Step into my office, now we sparkin' it... I spit the isms in yer ear... you better recognise it's raw shit from orbit."

This pairing with Sens makes total sense: Distinct from Mark and James' work as The Fear Ratio, their Deadhand project delivers something closer to 90s illbient in any case: extending the boom-bap era of hip-hop production with elements of hallucinogenic dystopianism, the energy of the EP nevertheless vibes playfully: Given the dispiriting global situation at present, the EP title 'Meanwhile' might simply refer to getting on with things in spite of all the cultural and political misendeavor the era will no doubt be long remembered for. Despite the global health pandemic and the looming spectre of wide-scale environmental collapse, little despair or surrender prevails here, but rather a hankering to attempt a few tripped-out experiments.

Three remixes bring further twists of the screw: A cosmic break flex from ETCH resituates Sensational amidst the magmic glow of Reaktor bass ensembles, while DJ Prime Cuts repurposes 7" soul gold by way of a more 'traditional' SP1200 approach. 90s trip-hop pioneer and graffiti legend REQ steps up with all the painterly flair he is rightly renowned for, obliterating the Monster Orchestra's classic 'I Can't Stop' stab towards a double dose of galactic melancholia.
