Owain K (Innate) is a name that is tied to quality. One of those underground heroes who you trust to bring you the goods and take you on a true trip. 

Whether as a DJ or a Producer, the experience and knowledge of Electronic music and its past manifests itself into his own next level contributions. This latest Chubby! Mix has Owain in his element for a 75 minute foray into deep house and techno music.

As a producer, he goes back some 15+ years with releases on a range of labels including Dessous, Outland Records, 200 and We're Going Deep among others. His talent for smooth sounds in all he does might just be his trademark. This certainly translates to his DJing. Owain has made his bones up and down the UK with trips into Europe as well. Although Bristol is his home turf, he also has solid Welsh roots having lived and thrown parties in Cardiff over the last 2 decades. 

Back in 2014, he started a blog which has turned into a label with www.inn8.net.

This mix is a euphoric trip into deep house, ambient techno, some slight Detroit action and a lot of melodic soul. The perfect armchair listen no doubt but sure to work on a deep dancefloor also.

He has also curated 2 compilations in the ‘Folk Funk & Trippy Troubadours’ series for RE:WARM. Receiving praise from all the right places, including BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne compilation of the week, Gilles Peterson giving his records plenty of airtime and rave reviews in Uncut, Shindig! Test Pressing and CLASH. He has gained a reputation for his continued deep digging and archival of lost music. And has built long-standing relationships with artists with a mission to give them the exposure they deserve.

Paul has carried his record box to many a venue, playing alongside The Polyphonic Spree, Arthur Lee & Love, Bonnie Dobson, Spiritualized, 4 Hero, Happy Mondays, Simian, The Bees, Julian Cope, Courtney Pine and many, many more. Mix of the Week #517: DJ Lloyd

'tis not everyone's favorite season of the year, but definitely the last mix of the decade. What better way to end it than let the high priest of Synth-Pop (Episcopal Minister John Zahl) read us the mass. John has prepared almost 5 hours of musical cleansing (recorded live et at Public Records on Oct 26, '19), which hopefully should be enough to wash you free from your sins of the last 10 years. Amen

Do you know Jamie Bennett? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t, maybe you heard one of your friends whisper: “That’s the Crown Ruler guy." One thing is undoubtedly true – Australia’s music scene wouldn’t be the same without Jamie’s influence. The wonderful Crown Ruler brand has exerted its influence throughout the country and far beyond. If this is news to you, start looking a little closer to home and you’ll spot the clues.

We’ll keep this intro brief – a cheeky web-surf will provide plenty of thoughtful write ups on the man’s roots. We think Jamie’s an incredible DJ. A trove of aural excellence comes through in this mix; Lovers rock, sun-kissed gems, and plenty of soulful rarities from all corners. It’s a little less about genre and a little more about mood.

When we joked with Jamie that the cost of the records in this mix alone must be his retirement fund, he slyly shot back: "That's my super." It’s hard to explain the effort, the research, and even the resources that go into pulling together the sort of collections that are at the heart of a mix like this. Perhaps that’s a little digger-to-digger nod, a silent sign of appreciation at the incredibly impractical art of carting around bags and bags of records in this day and age.

Our admiration goes beyond knowing the work involved. Hearing and experiencing Jamie’s talent through Waxflower’s speakers was, for us, a thing of joy. And at the heart of it all is Jamie’s love of music. We were honoured to have him play on the wheels at Wax. Music and Human connection, Enjoy!
