In the 1980s, Venezuela experienced a sonic revolution driven by a new generation of artists who began setting up private studios and self-releasing music created with synthesizers. In a context of transition between the progressive scene and the rise of new wave, these artists developed a style that oscillated between cosmic music, minimalism, ambient, and new age. In this edition, we will listen to artists such as Oksana Linde, Jacky Schreiber, Miguel Noya, Musikautomatika, Vinicio Adames, Ángel Rada, Óscar Caraballo and Johnny Lamas, along with a piece by Ofrenda, the group led by Vytas Brenner.

For our second Truancy Sessions of 2025 we're excited to bring on Dj Wiggles, an artist who in the ever-evolving landscape of electronic music has managed to cultivate for herself a multifaceted breakthrough career that seamlessly blends DJing, event curation, her own label and a wonderful mix series to boot. Initially immersing herself in dance music whilst at university in Brighton, inspiration from a community of like-minded individuals and local events paved the way, before a move to London marked a significant evolution in her artistic development. Living near the now closed down Pickle Factory, the eclectic late-night sets of artists like Margaret Dygas, Jane Fitz, and Call Super, combined with the music of peers such as re:ni and Batu, helped shaped her distinctive approach to DJing and curation. Kicking off kinetic in 2019, the platform initially started out as a radio show on 1020 before branching out into a mix series on Soundcloud a little later. Since then, kinetic has flourished, hosting events across South London and establishing a regular home at the much beloved Ormside Projects.. With a tingling take on contemporary bass music and delicately left-field sub heavy sounds, previous guests have included Dub Athlete, upsammy, Jurango and Nono Gigsta to name just a few. More recently she inaugurated kinetic as a label with the release of 5RVZ's Trench EP, marking yet another milestone in pushing the platform forward. For this Truancy Sessions mix, Dj wiggles has crafted a deeply-considered trip that embraces emotional subtleties and textural transitions. Reading between the lines with tracks needing to find their placing in the electronic landscape, she's able to weave together tracks that resist easy categorisation, highlighting the beauty  of those in-between moments with a layer of unpredictability.

this is a recording of my 4am-7am closing set from the first night of Paturia festival this past August, a fest put together with immense love and care by Soleil Rouge Collective in the French countryside about an hour and a half from St. Etienne.

I was blessed to spend a week with this crew out at the farm house, watching them build and create a wicked forest paradise, all while preparing to perform. Being taken care of by a crew of volunteers, down to a crew of moms cooking us every single meal.

3 hours of pure love and joy — from nostalgia-core, deep subs, cunty rave, ignorant wubs, deep-hip unlocking, tender bliss, and morning sunshine in the woods. Couple technical difficulties, (toward the end one of the organizers got shocked by a wet outlet), filled with crowd recordings of pure love, and memories of the booth filling up with vibers throwing ass and head banging to Maara and Linkin Park.

this set feels like an actualization of my philosophy as a dj. every sound is a tool, every mood can be amplified, pushed, and played with. there is no narrative, there is no

We previously wrote that this guest is a "bass wizard and sonic sorcerer" - this holds true enough, but we might need to brush up on our astrophysics to accommodate ADAB's expansive, space-time-traversing flow. A seasoned selector with an incredible range of emotive and kinetic rhythmic directions, ADAB's deft dancefloor work is trained by a zig-zagging dance music trajectory from front-of-house to behind the scenes, front door to behind the booth, from DIY corners to polished clubland. They have brought a real artist's vision to Philadelphia's roster of talent, and it's a pleasure to welcome them back.
