Day 8 ended in a wild and beasty rave where all bets were off, thanks to the crazy set of Pariah (@Pariah_UK) and Tammo Hesselink (@TammoHesselink) filled with highly danceable raw breaks. Something a little different from my last few mixes - many of you know me for faster uptempo club mixes, but I also love and dig a lot of slower hypnotic tracks since I started DJing in 2007. I wanted to make a paced-out mix that I could really sink into and feel safe to tap into states of intimacy and warmth.

This mix was recorded on July 26 during one of Clara Tatjana and I's long music sessions in my studio. We were jamming to tunes and she contributed many awesome selections to the tracklist <3

With the current wave of lockdowns and many gig cancellations, I thought it fitting to share this feeling as we all incubate for the next.

Haven Mix

In this mesmerizing 2 hours DJ-set recorded last summer 2021 during the Kuboraum + Terraforma event @Funkhaus Harbour, Berlin, DJ Stingray 313 gave no time to rest, gracing the decks with eclectic, warp-speed slithery electronic sounds.

Since the 90s, Sherard Ingram has been one of the most influential artists in the Detroit underground scene. A menacing node in the vast tangle of electronic music’s history, present and future. Founder of Urban Tribe, Ingram worked alongside electro pioneers such as Drexciya, Anthony Shakir, Kenny Dixon Jr aka Moodymann.
DJ Stingray 313's aesthetic was greatly influenced by the duo Drexciya. Their ethos was based on the afro-futurist narrative concept of a sonic fiction. Through a sonic engagement with water, futurity and the transnational dimension of transformation, listeners embark upon a universal journey to a place of self-discovery. In this context, a mythical creature emerging from the aquatic underworld was named DJ Stingray by James Stinson. Besides adding to the consistent aquatic tropes, the name Stingray also acutely embodied his slippery, killer attitude behind the decks. 

With more than three dozen releases, Ingram collaborated with labels as Retroactive, Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label, TRUST and Mo Wax, later forming Micron Audio in 2008. In 2017 his first mix CD, Kern Vol.4, was released by Tresor.
From futuristic electro to conceptual ambient to downtempo works, his style is characterised by fast-paced, inventive beat patterns and constant shifts in tones. Warp-speed slithery, metallic techno with a UR punk edge and a rising sense of momentum.
A highly specialized, fine-tuned scientific experiment conducted by a skilled researcher: not euphoric, but more intellectual in nature. Always hectic and highly engaged, but never unfocused. And always carrying the spark of discovery.

On June 23, 2022, Revier Südost and Gravity Network invited Bloomfeld, Chloe Lula, DVS1, Katty Lange and Nicky Böhm to gather for a panel discussion titled Techno Capitalism & Instagram Economy, to deconstruct the title loaded with many positive and negative connotations, and to unpack some of the topics and issues associated with business side of electronic music industry. What went down was a lively conversation on the notorious business techno, on straddling the middle between the underground and the mainstream, artist visibility and the role of photography, today’s relevance of DJ mixes and much, much more.

Techno Capitalism & Instagram Economy [Gravity Berlin #1 Talks]

There are DJs, then there are DJs who capture—and live—a moment in dance music's evolution. Born in Los Angeles, but based in New York for the better half of a decade, Akua has established herself as the latter, an important voice in the North American techno scene. Akua's DJing practice is fueled by her research in the '90s techno music archive, with a special interest in the history and roots of techno within America. 

Akua's sets are raw extensions of the foundations laid by the pioneers of '90s U.S. techno. Most prominently, the work and influence of DJs like Jeff Mills, Claude Young and Jay Denham can all be heard across her mixes, as well as the spirit of Underground Resistance. Her interest in fast-paced techno comes from these traditions as well as own individualist streak—while there's no shortage of DJs who play high-BPM techno, you won't hear anyone else play it quite like she does.

Her old-school meets new-school sound has catapulted her from the New York underground into the European techno circuit, where recent gigs have seen her perform at dance music institutions like Berghain and Dekmantel. Akua's RA Podcast is her in full-throttle mode, featuring all the stripped-down, hypnotic groove of early techno aside rushes of searing acid, carefully speeding up until closing at a healthy sprint.
