Hello! I’m Ivy (she/ her) and I live in Eora (Sydney), Australia :-) + I have a 2 year old cat called Frankie 

Who/what currently inspires you music-wise that has nothing to do with music?

I’d say that my emotions generally inspire me, as well as different times of the day. I tend to get the most ideas when I’m trying to figure out what music to listen to in a particular setting - like whether I’m walking around the neighbourhood at dusk, at the park on a beautiful day, cooking something really yummy and comforting or if I’m in a bad mood and need to let some angst out haha


Favorite sound of the city? Describe how it makes you feel. 

I don’t know if this is specific to the city but I love the bird calls that magpies make - I can hear them outside my house early in the morning and it makes me feel like I’m on holiday in the country somewhere :-)

Who do you think is the most underrated artist of our time?

If you had to describe yourself as flavor, what would it be and why?

Cinnamon - a little spicy but also sweet and delicious ;P

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Such a tough question! If I had to name a few - Nectar, Pure Space and Vibe Positive for always putting endless love and care into their events - from lineup curation to constantly working on how they can make spaces safer, more accessible and representative of Eora/ Sydney’s diverse music community :-) 

What was your best moment on the dance floor?

In 2019 Moopie and Bayu closed a small festival called Echo Flats that was a few hours drive away, they played like 4 - 5 hours of the best, grooviest tech house I’d ever heard until the sun came up - it was a life changing morning :’)

What is your favorite temperature? What kind of music goes well with it? 

Probably something between 25 - 28 degrees celsius with some downtempo RnB :-) 

Any advice to upcoming DJs? 

Practice makes perfect! 
Preparing/ pre-planning your sets - especially when you’re nervous about a gig
Backup your shit (!!!!!!)

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community? 

More 24hr licences for venues - less gronks - more tech house

𝐃𝐨𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 - loveroché

There is no one quite like Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being in today’s electronic music scene. A Chicago native who runs the Mathematics label and releases on Rvng Intl, Soul Jazz and Ninja Tune, he is a raw, uncompromising and experimental live act and producer who operates right on the fringes of house, acid and techno. As such, he very much embodies the contemporary Windy City sound having first been taken under the wing of Adonis way back when. The charismatic Moss has put out music on Creme Organization, Further and Planet Mu, is a notoriously analogue centric artist and releases an awful lot of essential music on a regular basis.

And a lot of it is showcased in this podcast, which was a live and fully improvised three hour session recorded on a Friday night at Secret Service on November 20th 2015 in Minneapolis. The raw, expressive set really showcases the breadth and depth of Moss’s sound. Ranging from prickly and abstract to melodically inventive, acid laced and dark, it is a truly textural affair that never stops evolving from start to finish.

October welcomes Peaking Lights to our podcast series but also our label, because on the 15th of the month the Californian electronic pop duo serve up Sand of Sea. It’s their first release of the year and a six track trip into their woozy and immersive, dubbed out electronics. It comes after a decade of Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis and honing their sound on a broad selection of labels from Domino to 100% Silk. The husband and wife pair are known for their spellbinding live show and have put out nine LPs that mirror the shimmering horizons and long warm nights of their LA hometown. 

This super extended four hour jam is a comprehensive overview of what they can do. It has a global narrative that takes you to a humid African plain then on to a beach a sunset. It veers from clunky mechanical grooves to blissed out synthscapes with ease, and tempos always stay at an invitingly slow pace, so there is plenty of space to think and get lost between the beats. Summer might now be in the rear view mirror, but this mix will always bring some sunshine into your life.

DJ Python with DJ Bigos - 11 March 2020

MSJY (formerly Miss Jay)(@jockey_jay)has a foot in many different scenes and brings them together in bold, brazen sets. A core part of the team at OOST club in the North of the Netherlands and with former residencies at Noorderling and Griessmuehle, her sonic character continually changes. She often  weaves bass heavy sounds, dark vibrations and dense IDM into logic-defying musical journeys that counter the dark dark and light sides of her personality in compelling conceptual ways.

Ahead of putting together this week's mix, the artist rewatched the newest Blade Runner and got inspired by the scenic shots. "I tried to imagine what my soundtrack to adventures in that world could look like. I guess you could call it post-apocalyptic dystopian energy with a hopeful end but approachable sound." The result is a cinematic mix that uses atmospheric ambient and minimal drum & bass rhythms to set the scene, build the tension, and take you from moments of thrilling intensity to brain cleansing calm.
