Exquisite Corpse is not quite as dark as it sounds, it is an idea inspired by ‘Cadavre Exquis’ - Where artworks are assembled collectively in different parts, with each new
collaborator adding their composition to the sequence. The show’s episodes will be formatted as a continuous stream, where each set will start from exactly where the
last ends off. At the end it will form a seamless mix, adding a piece of patchwork to the ensemble.

The goal is to create a connection, and a passing of the torch between the host and guests, with some conversations along the way, and hopefully an amazing journey.

I was messing around with a friend, and we were laughing at how absurd this name would sound on a line up.

140 is the bpm I am truly comfortable in. If I go higher I am ramping it up. Slower than 140bpm is basically downtempo

What is your favorite party/collective where you reside and why?

Climax - these women are making their own space and crafting their own vibe in the current techno paradigm. Their mission and ethics are on point, while their music tastes reside outside of time.
3 X L - the existence of ambient influencers has been confirmed

What would you like to see in the future for the dance community?

Post capitalism. Humans gathered all the gun supply on Earth, loaded it on a big spaceship and sent it off into the cosmos. The rich are abolished. Reparations have been paid. Therapy has been mandatory for yt men for a few decades now. There is no such thing anymore as a “bedroom producer”, we record our music directly from our brains. Rave Etiquette and Rave History are the subjects studied in middle-school. There is no talk at the raves in the front of the dance floor - we have telepathy for that. DJing as a craft remains the same because it has always been ahead of its time.

Genre-whipping Italian DJ and producer Giordano delivers an hour of barely contained chaos. From old-school rave, to UK bass-face inducing wobblers to acid-dripped electronica, @giordano grabs us and pulls us along for the hour-long ride whether we're ready or not.

Emma Blake is, musically, something of a nomad. She made her name—Solid Blake—that is, in Copenhagen, where she cofounded the influential Apeiron Crew alongside Mama Snake and Smokey. They were responsible in establishing the city's "fast techno" sound, which blended sleek techno and trance influences into something colourful and retro-futuristic. But Blake's side of things was always more rooted in electro, with a party-starting flair that you might be tempted to pin to her Glaswegian upbringing. (Her first release, <i>Mario</i>, came out on the label of the legendary Glasgow taps-aff basement nightclub La Cheetah.) And she's also spent time in Berlin, so she has those techno bona fides, too.

Another EP, released on Modeselektor's Seilscheibenpfeiler, further fleshed out her electro-techno hybrid sound, also explored in her Historical Repeater project with Danish artist Ctrls. DJing has been her major focus, though—she has an excellent Rinse FM show—and you'll hear a refined approach on her excellent RA Podcast, which is like a club set in miniature, starting out midtempo and rushing towards a heady climax with tracks like Pariah's "Squishy Windows." It's loaded with creative grooves, toothsome textures and the kind of sleek melodies that helped define her stint in Copenhagen since the beginning.

Rest Your Brain with  Bruno Schmidt & Adi - 30 Januray 2024

Last year, when we wrote that "the best UK garage is coming out of Los Angeles," we were talking about Introspekt. The US DJ, who has since moved to New York, really understands the genre—its appeal, swing and unique, bassy whomp. Listen to any of her tracks, like last year's "Forlorn," and you'll hear someone who produces like she's been making UKG all her life. This is probably partly because she comes from a dubstep background, but either way, if you're looking for new UK garage beats, Introspekt is one of the best going right now.

Her DJing also hits a distinct sweet spot, zeroing in one of the proto-dubstep, dark UK garage days when producers like El-B were making the hottest shit around. Her sound is both retro and forward-looking, as you'll hear on her RA Podcast, which balances vintage Big Apple cuts from Skream & Benga with new-school tunes from Amaliah and Surusinghe. It's not so much a throwback as it is a rejuvenation of an old sound—a new way to look at it and a new way to make it. If hindsight is 20/20, then Introspekt has perfect vision, and mixes like this are the perfect way to educate listeners, make them move and innovate a little in the process.

This past February, Tesfa Williams released his debut album—over 20 years into his career. Raves Of Future Past distilled decades of experience on London dance floors into a potent and powerful blend of grime, house, rave and techno. Made with an Elektron Digitakt to imitate the rough textures of early '00s UK dance music, the LP is an anachronistic history lesson that throws everything in a blender, imagining what gqom might sound like as an Eski track and giving new life to the short-lived "sublow" sound Williams helped invent with classic tracks like "Invasion," released under his earlier alias DJ Dread D.

Since the sublow days, however, Williams has become a torchbearer for UK house music and African diasporic sounds like Afro house and gqom in London. He's put out soulful hits like "Heartbeat"—recently reissued by Local Action—and released a steady stream of dance records for PMR and Strictly Rhythm. He's what you might call a jack of all trades, except for that he's actually a master of them all.

His RA Podcast charts his musical journey in reverse chronological order, starting with smooth, African-influenced sounds and winding through grime and dubstep, eventually landing at jungle. He threads a needle through diverse genres (and eras), and posits that the traditional UK hardcore continuum is a bigger spectrum than you might think, with gqom's heave and amapiano's log drum equally important in the musical equation. It's nearly two hours of UK dance music past and present, from a DJ who has lived it all.

Everyone at fabric is devastated about Andrew Weatherall’s passing, and our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this difficult time. When the news broke on Monday, we spent most of the day thinking of the best way to commemorate Weatherall’s chapter in our story, but as soon as we put fabric 19 on our office speakers, we felt like sharing it with our community made the most sense. 

For the next week, the full mix will be available to stream here. Back when we were working on releasing this album, Weatherall left us with the following words, which sum up his approach as an artist better than we ever could. We are proud to be able to share one piece of his enduring legacy. He will forever shine like a star. 

“It's only in the last five years that I've considered myself a DJ, ‘cos when I first started, I just played records. I thought of it as a job, but I never thought of it as a career. When you start thinking career, you start thinking ‘Game plans’, and ‘I've gotta be at a certain stage’, and ‘Oh, why am I still doing this’ if, you know, ‘My career should be here’. Call me an underachiever. I think if you start thinking of it as a career, you start thinking you've gotta be here at a certain time, then you start taking shortcuts and start making the wrong kind of decisions. fabric 19: Andrew Weatherall

Dublin-based DJ EMA is one of the minds behind Woozy, a club night in the capital dedicated to celebrating low-end frequencies and pushing contemporary soundsystem culture.

Earlier this year, alongside co-founder and fellow Dubliner Sputnik One, she launched the night's label arm with a V/A compilation that highlighted several underground artists manoeuvering in sub-heavy realms — the likes of Jurango, Kamus, Kellen303 and more.

Her regular slot on Dublin Digital Radio is yet another space to spread her love of all things bass, but every now and then you might hear a cheeky dose of trance of UKG. She sticks to her guns for this week's Wednesday Alternative mix, though she takes the levels up a notch launching us into 150+ bpm territory... hold on to your hats!
