Richard Chartier (@richard-chartier) is a Los Angeles based artist, considered one of the key figures in minimalist sound art. Chartier’s works explore the inter-relationships between the spatial nature of sound, silence, focus, perception, and the act of listening itself. Chartier's sound works/installations have been presented in galleries and museums internationally and he has performed his work live across Europe, Japan, Australia, and North America at digital art/electronic music festivals and exhibits.

After a few years, we are celebrating—reaching 200, who would have thought! It all started as a happy idea talking with friends from Hausofcolor. "Could we upload the djsets from the parties?" we wondered. And what if we talk to friends from Barcelona to express themselves through music?

Then, with the pandemic, the purpose evolved: to share completely heterogeneous music every week. I aimed to create different dynamics with various lights and concepts. Over time, the channel has been defined in a more specific direction, where the subjective taste has dynamically and tendentially shaped the content. The music featured now can be broadly understood in two main abstract (and very holistic, it must be said) themes. Every week is a surprise. On the other hand, the audience can get a sense of the direction things are heading. There are these two main blocks: one of deep listening, ambient, avant-garde and concrete, minimalism and/or experimental, drone, or more eclectic pieces dedicated to the collector/selector. And another more dedicated to deep beats, at different speeds and rhythms but generally quite horizontal in nature.

I remember dedicating the 100th episode to my fav festival, La Mostra, F-on did a beat djset associated with the sounds you would find in its first edition. For this 200th episode, where La Mostra has now celebrated its third edition, the maestro Richard Chartier has prepared this delight of deep listening without beats. A bit of a summary of the two contexts you can find, broadly speaking, on HOC radio.

HOCast #200 - Richard Chartier

It was my first Draaimolen and no one knew it which was great. 
It was also my first encounter with Addit Audio and their sound system installed for the first time in its full glory. I can't recall being brought to tears during one soundcheck.
So there were no news, no algorithms, no expectations to be disappointed. The pit was not announced. It felt like a curious manifestation of something paranormal.
Wonderful sound system, records and sweetest weather.  
Those who found us in the small pit in the middle of the forest most likely didn't know what was going on. 
For the most part of the first 5 hours I figured out that it would be great to play for and with the sound guy, playing right and wrong records and figuring out which one sound good. Research and development mission for Addit Audio.
After 5 hours ISAbella joined for a brief back to back session. Everything can happen in the realm of paranormal. Luckily she stayed and we played together for the next 3 hours until the last song, the one for the deceased. Probably as close as it gets to transcendence.
